I'm not familiar with the type of casing they use and I can only guess without seeing images of the disc in question, but can't you just use a Dremel to cut open whatever bullshit box they are in?
Or is the disc itself glued down into the box and will need a chemical solvent or some resurfacing until the glued plastic is gone?

I'm astounded. Are you saying there's a grading process that is intended to be irreversible?

Edit: seems like the work of a few moments...

    Hi all,

I bought the discs. I'm sure the wata boxes won't be a problem. This is still in progress so I can't say much, but I will post an update once I can. It's a don't count your eggs before they hatch kind of situation.

To be fair, once it is dumped, those boxes look like a safe place to store them in (if they are really UV resistant).

Going by what I've heard, they're nowhere near the quality of Comic Book boxes.

I really don't believe in this having a game graded and put in a plastic box so you can't play. IMO defeats the whole point of owning a game. If you don't want to play it then let me. I feel the only reason to have a collection of games is the same reason people used to have a room full of books. To read or in this case play. So I am glad these will be dumped for others to enjoy.

Life!? ... What console is that on?

Sadly, it seems a lot of modern collectors prefer to treat them as museum pieces instead (and mainly for their monetary value). "Look but no touchie!"

EDIT: also probably I should mention that yeah, this is completely different to the goal of when it's done to comics, where the idea is to preserve them so they don't get damaged with time (e.g. color fading), so they can be read long later.

I lost even more respect for the grading of games when I heard this. Talk about stupid.

It may help keeping the CDR from deteriorating, is what I was trying to say.
