    2) What is your capture setup for HDMI? Have you calibrated it? How?

    3) How do you account for RetroRGB's test that showed significantly less lag than yours? He is on a tested setup (no audio delay introduced in HDMI capture), recording and analyzing at 60 fps.
1 - When I initially recorded the lag test, I used a Framemeister to record the Genesis video. Framemeister video is a few frames later than the audio, thus the difference (and why I used the word "about" in my video). This time I used a Retrotink 2X to record the Genesis video, which introduces zero lag. I wanted to be extra accurate this time and I did not have the Retrotink 2X at the time of the original Genesis Mini video.

    2) - Recorded everything through an El Gato HD60. HDMI does not require calibration. I can HEAR the lag when I play, even when it's not on the HD60. I can hear it on other Youtube videos. It exists whether you want it to or not.

    3) - He and I have been discussing this whole thing privately. I told him to use Castle of Illusion but he used and normal enemy instead of the boss where it's much harder to hear where the sound begins since it's softer. Bob does not dispute my findings. However it is possible that some games have more audio lag than others. Some different areas of the same game may differ. But I can promise you this: All Genesis Minis will have 8 frames of audio lag during the first level boss encounter on Castle of Illusion. More on Mega Man (and Digital Foundry discovered) and maybe less on other games, like Ghouls & Ghosts.

just played around with mine, there definitely is a delay, is it game breaking? no, but it's there and after noodling around with my shield it's more or less on par with md.emu rocking a wireless ps4. there's a delay but it's manageable. but it is there.

I only got that Kiss Shot code working once on the Asian MD Mini with "Value Games in a Can". I tried pressing and holding the buttons. Is there a trick to it? I can pull off the toaplan mode code in Slap Fight consistently.

    1) Press it at the game selection screen.
    2) Hold down all buttons until the game starts.

I'm not sure when the code is acknowledged but it seems to be somewhere after the screen goes black.

Put in sometime with my Asia unit. The sound lag is definitely there.
There are some other sound issues as well.
As Castle of Illusion has been one of the focused on games for sound lag I'll point out that I can notice the lag mostly when picking up items and particularly at the end of level bonus-point count-down ~ the sound continues after the points have tallied.

The BGM mix seems different in some games, Thunder Force III is a game I've played extensively and I can't help but notice the kick drum sounds different - not bad, just different.
Playing the Games Can games there is an occasional "crackle" in some sounds particularly in the title screen BGM.
Outrun 2029 is the only other game I put some real time into, and I'm not familiar enough with the original to make a judgement.

I might also point out that I initially was experiencing some game breaking control lag, playing 16 Ton I would push the throw button and watch a few frames later the item actually throw. TFIII was impossible to play. etc.
After sleeping on it, I realized I was using a secondary HDMI port on my 4k TV and I had neglected to set the picture settings for "gaming" - once I did that the control is snappy and responsive.

Thanks. I found a more consistent way to do the code. First, on the game selection screen, highlight Medal City, then hold A+B+C and press and hold start while A+B+C are held (as before, keep buttons held until game starts).

Well I know the whole question is the mini vs original genesis.

But really what about Genesis vs Raspberry Pi 3, is there any point if someone has a Raspberry Pi 3b with a retrobit genesis 6 button controller to get this?

If you want an official sega product, you know you need it! But if you just want to play, rpi3 emulation is better on the audio side, and you decide your library! I own a megapi with blast 16, a mega sg, and still bought it!!

Nice, I just don't see payin $80 for it, if it goes down I could consider it.
I did get a Playstation Classic for $20 and enjoy it after I hacked it.

Thanks for doing that. For me it's obvious these units are manufactured in a gigantic batch, and the review units have the same origin as the retail units. Given how close to the release the review units were distributed, it's highly unlikely they're part of a preliminary or test batch.

I'm happy with that I see with my own Genesis Mini. Everyone should remember these things are toys. Toys that function but they are toys. For the price I think they're excellent. Could be better? Yes, I've noticed other flaws with the sound. But anything can be better at any point. I'm satisfied with this for what it is, and I look forward to motivating SEGA to make more of those.

Apparently they're very close to making this thing fully hackable, hopefully they can fix the underclocked CPU and fix the lag a bit.

From the one or two videos I have seen, it seems that the quality of the sound emulation is up to standard. Just this small amount of lag that people have mentioned.

I too hope the device gets hacked, and gets the underclock sorted etc.

Will be good to see how things progress.

Haven't had a chance to try out the mini. Don't need one as I have an OG Genesis. I find it amusing the disconnect between casual reviewers in the press (who seem to love this console) and the hardcore people in this forum who have nit picked it to death. My guess is the audio lag would be barely perceptible to most people unless it was explicitly pointed out. It's like the people that complain about input lag on HD TV's. It's so incredibly small in most cases, yet such a big deal for the hardcore Sega people here. I used to frequent this forum a lot, but the negativity and silliness I see here just drives me away every time I drop in to see what's up.

Can we just enjoy the embarrassment of riches for Genesis/Mega Drive related content in 2019 without being a bunch of whiny babies? Please?

I don't know, a part of me wants to be happy with it and enjoy the moment.
The other is just wondering how's it different from the Flashback release of 2 years ago.
It was still pretty good for the casual audience, after all.
