You need a torrent client to open a torrent file or magnet link (I use qBittorrent, which is freeware with no ads). It's a peer-to-peer system (somewhat like Napster, but files are split into multiple chunks). Seeds are the number of people currently connected who have a full copy of the file you want, so if you open a torrent that doesn't have any, you're screwed (for the moment).

There's a fair bit you should know to torrent effectively, so you definitely want to do some research if it's something you're going to do on a semi-regular basis.

Just use YouTube-dl to donload from youtube.

And you really need to read on how torrent downloads work before you start begging for links to private torrents.

These days I just download a torrent, back in the day I'd use Napster/Kazaa and later get my shit from newsgroups. but these days Torrents are just easiest. (especially with a NAS that's always on)

Tell us what type of file it is and we can probably help you out.

Thanks, YouTube-dl looks interesting, and I hadn't heard of it.

Also I didn't ask for links to private torrents, unless we're misunderstanding each other; I was just asking what websites were good for downloading stuff (and pirate bay looks good)...

But the thing with downloading from YouTube, is YouTube uses hardcore compression algorithms for video and audio. Like you will get music that way, but if you get the albums from torrents then they'll be higher quality.
