So, 115 out of 133 people thought one of these platforms was the best of its generation. That means that, given the choice, 86% of the people who have bothered to vote think this generation of hardware should exist, or at least have enough preference of one console to bother to vote for it within the generation.
Given this is a Sega forum, I am not surprised of the percentages favoring the 32X. One thing that is surprising is that these percentages closely mirror the actual sales figures of the 32X, Jaguar and 3DO based on the only sales figures we have uncovered so far. Statistically this is virtually irrelevant, unless we had thousands of votes in this thread these things are completely impossible to draw any conclusions from outside of this groups interests. Still, it is an odd coincidence.
3DO had plummers don't wear ties, it wins by default.
3DO was the future, now, back then, in the past.
....ooooooohhhhhh
All three suck, but I chose Jaguar because there were games on it that I enjoyed and I got the most play out of it. The 32X I've owned a few times; there are a couple of fun games, but nothing to write home about. I never owned a 3DO but sampled a friend's back in the day and didn't like any of the games.
I was dumb enough to buy a Jag at launch, but did get significant amounts of play out of T2K, AvP, D2K, Missile Command 3D, Super Burnout, Rayman, Ultra Vortek, Iron Soldier, Hover Strike, and what is possibly the best port of Raiden ever made.
I can't deny the Jaguar sucks. It was home to some absolute abominations. Out of the 3 systems, however, I got the most play out of it and I still have a fondness for it. I would probably reacquire one if it wasn't for the fact that they are generally priced way more than they are worth.
*bump* 3do was really expensive....and cd based (cd drives and games break easily). The jaguar had that retarded controller.....32x wins for me.
If we compare actual games. 3DO wins by far.

the 3do doom soundtrack is too good.
I've always preferred cartridge or flash based hardware, I guess it's just a preference. CDs, dvds, blu-rays, they all feel so cheap to me. Now I'm curious if there's any third party jaguar controllers that're....well....more normal.
But better at what? If you go by games, the 3DO was out the longest and has the biggest library, so unless you're fixed on one specific title, it would be "better".
Better at efficiency? The 32X probably wins that - it's a neat, simple, compact add-on that plops on top of an existing console... one that sold extremely well.
Better hardware? That's probably the Jaguar... once you dig int the technical aspects of each design, each has areas they excell in, but overall hardware strength leans toward the Jaguar as the best of the group.
Better support from the parent company? Probably the 3DO again. Atari was about the middle, and although Sega started strong, they pulled back completely on the 32X after less than a year.
How about better support from magazines? Which one got better reviews and articles regardless of whether it earned them or not?
But that's why the thread is as long as it is.![]()
