Default Sega Classics 4-in1/5-in-1 Cartridge vs CD

Never had a chance to witness for yourself the changes Sega made in the following games when they included them on a single disc??

    -Revenge of Shinobi
    -Streets of Rage
    -Golden Axe
    -Columns
    -Super Monaco GP

WATCH THIS AWESOME VIDEO and audition the changes for yourself. I love doing these things.

Heh, great video. The zooming/flying box arts and Genesis/Sega CD made me chuckle/LOL for some reason.

    I knew SMGP's music was slightly enhanced. Thank GAD they ditched those horrific cart voice samples;

Somehow. whenever I hear the cart "Now Its Up To You!" sample, I picture a Genesis-rendered Ponch from CHIPs saying it:

Very educational haha. I knew they enhanced the sound quality on the Sega CD versions but playing them side by side like that really brings that out. At the moment the only cart version of those games I own is SMGP and its painfully obvious playing both of them that they upgraded the sound at least for me anyways.

I prefer the 'dirty' sound of the originals myself

Agreed! As for Cart Vs CD versions, I think I would have to agree that most cart stuff is more to my taste.

The revenge of Shinobi sound effects are pretty poor. The noise he makes when he casts his magic sounds like he is constipated. The music wasnt changed atall to my untrained ear. As for Streets of Rage. Theres isnt much change there atall apart from the character/NPC effects. There also pretty weak.

Final Fight CD is a masterpiece as far as Audio & Visuals go. But there is no Cart version to compare it to. Maybe if there was I might say the same as I have above. Maybe I wouldnt, Who knows!?

But! The Flashback "Cart Version" for example is so much better than the CD version. I love the menu music in the CD Version. But the game music just gets on my nerves after awhile. (Sorry went abit off topic there!)

Awesome video. How much to you hear of the Super Monaco GP CD track if you pull down the volume slider on your model 1 Genesis, Joe?

I actually preferred the cart sounds and music, although it's probably just because I'm accustomed to it.

Only "Golden Axe" (cart music replaced with coin-op music) and "Super Monaco GP" (cart music slightly touched up with extra/clearer instruments) had their music altered in "Sega Classics". All "Columns" received was an brief, mystical-sounding CD-quality track in its title screen, that tried to invoke the Egyptian/pyramid motif of the game.

Also, only 'Axe's music and the aforementioned Columns track are available as RedBook tracks to be listened to on the CD. All other music is handled internally by the Genny and/or Sega CD sound suite(s).

'Axe, SoR, and RoS and SMGP however did have their cart voice samples replaced with either new ones or higher sampled versions of the old ones.

One of the reasons why the new music/voice may not have vibed well with the games (aside from them being worse like in RoS and to a lesser extent SoR) is because they were still using Genesis sound effects so it kinda sounded uneven.

So Joe, you're using Final Cut Pro huh? Is it easy to work with compared to Windows Movie Maker? And how well would it run on these (my) specs?:

    Pentium 4 @ 1.6 Ghz
    640 MB DDR SDRAM
16 MB ATi Rage 128 Ultra *insert Golden Axe death scream*
    Integrated Sound

Final Cut Pro won't run on a PC. What tipped you off to it's FCP-ness? I know the Angry Video Game Nerd also seems to use Final Cut Pro (I can tell by his default fonts and the motions they make).

Then they should have used those superior drums in the Genesis version as well. Sounds like some porters have been lazy here.

The CD came after the Genesis version. That would require time travel. I admit that time travel is pretty easy, though.
