    Default Hot hot HOT!!

So, I was playing music CD's on my Sega CD, when all of a sudden, it started skipping and making some weird noises from the drive (fist time i ever heard it "grind").

And when I detached the Genesis from the CD, the bottom of the Genesis and top of the Sega CD, were BURNING HOT! It's in a well ventilated spot...

So, I let it cool down, and tried again, and sure enough, it played music CDs fine again. Real printed CD's btw, with no scratches, new discs.

So, wtf?? Non TMSS Genny HD graphics, model 1 Sega CD. does yours get hot?

The system was running for about 7 hours.. (ehh, i'll just say had a girl over that loved her music CD's)

Never had a reason to keep a game system on that long, but once it gets to a certain temperature I don't see why it would keep getting hotter. You might want to open up your Sega CD to check for dead rats blocking the ventilation areas. Rats love to borrow inside Sega CDs.

Also consider that you live in Florida. People put on their coats when it "chills" to 90 degrees.

Why do people use valuable gaming systems as CD players?

Found where the sound comes from.. The white cog wheel on the laser assembly..

It seems when hot, the wheel actually slips the motor when the laser quickly reverses direction...

This might be a deity of your choice suggesting you use an actual CD player in the future.

Have you tried simply doing without CD+G?

I don't want a lecture on about CD+G's or not.

Either way, it affects game play, and if you think about it, when I play Snatcher again, this Sega CD will be very busy loading data, FAR more stress than a music CD, because the laser has to constantly move back and forth, instead of a music CD's constant moving forward slowly.

I'm sure CD+G/karaoke is the #1 way into a girls panties, but if you are afraid to damage a system that you like, I'd seriously find some other means to do CD+G.

Or at the very least...how about not leaving the thing on for 7 hours?

It was her idea. We were both drunk and she wanted to sing karaoke.

My DC worked for a week in a row, constantly being used... no porblems...
I can't say anything about MCD though... the heat generation may vary between different models, and Florida might have something to do with it aswell.

The room temp is 80F sometimes 83F...

The problem seems to be when the system heats up, the cog wheel begins to slip, when the laser reverses direction suddenly.

How many Celsius is 80F ? I have 15...20C in my room usually, last summer (which was unusually hot) it was 30, my DC was always on the edge of overheating (but it survived the week).
