Those are highly sought after and very hard to find loose, and when you find them, they are more expensive than the 32X itself. Some German seller on eBay have some custom made cables, I suggest you look for it there.

Buy stuff at the Magical Game Factory, WaterMelon's crowd funding video game development site!

Do YOU have any games you want to get rid of that haven't been reviewed on the site and needs to be beaten for the sake of this project? Send 'em to me and I'll review and beat them! I'll pay for shipping of course. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Search ebay for "sega 32X conversion cable" and you'll probably find one or two for sale.

That looks like the adapter cable..

Because the AV DIN on the Mega Drive 1 is a different size to that on the Mega Drive 2 you need a different cable to connect the MD1-32X than you do to connect the MD2-32X... That ebay auction looks like it's the adapter that you plug on the end of the MD2-32X cable that turns it into the MD1-32X cable.

so you'll still need the other cable if you bought that. Or you could just search for a MD1-32X cable

I can't view ebay from work so I can't look at it right now, but the conversion cable is very short, only about 6 inches long and the plug on one end is larger (Gen 1 end) than the plug on the other end.

To be clear, you need two different cables which are connected to one another to correctly connect a Mk1 Genesis to the 32X. I'm talking original Sega cables here, not sure if anyone ever made a single cable that will do the same thing (but I'm pretty sure not).

To fully connect a Mk1 to a 32X you need:
-a conversion cable, connects to the Mk1 output and to the adaptor cable that runs to the input on the 32X
-the adaptor cable that runs from the input on the 32X to the end of the conversion cable mentioned above
-the AV cable that runs from the output of the 32X to your TV or AV switchbox or VCR or whatever

The 32X also has it's own power input of course. If you have a Sega CD you also should run an audio mix cable from the audio output on the front of the Genesis to the audio in on the back of the Sega CD and then get the audio only from the Sega CD and only the video from the 32X (just don't plug in the red and white audio cables of the 32X's AV cable and instead plug in the red and white cables from the Sega CD).

I can provide photos after I get home if needed.

Just make sure that the cable the ebay seller is selling you is the hard to find short conversion cable and not the adaptor cable which is easier to find. What I am calling the adaptor cable is also the only one used when you have a Genesis 2 and runs directly from the Gen 2 to the 32X without the need for the difficult to find conversion cable.

If you can capture the photo from the ebay auction and post it here I could try to identify it for you. Otherwise I'll take a peek when I get home tonight.

Phheeww too late to talk you out of it? $28 bucks for the cable just seems too steep, even for me. If you gotta have it you gotta have it, but I would just sit tight and watch the auctions for a couple weeks and wait for another one to pop up.

Unless anyone here can honestly say they've gotten 28 dollars of PURE FUN out of their 32x, which is impossible.

I agree, that looks like the correct one. The price is steep but I will say I've gotten a LOT of fun out of quite a few 32X games. I guess the lesson to learn here is that when shopping for a 32X, make sure it comes along with all the cable it should have given the Genesis you have.

yep I had one watched on EBAY. It was at around 5 bucks and nearing the end time. Before the end time came I noticed the item had vanished. WTF I thought and sure enough a few days later the seller has the item back on there starting at $20.

LOL, it's eBay cash and I have a few bucks in the account :-) $28 is nothing. It's only money, I work to play and enjoy everything I purchase.
