Played the shit out of Parasol Stars for the TurboGrafx-16, which is IMO one worthy sequel to Rainbow Islands (and Bubble Bobble for that matter)

    I fucking love it.

I'm doing a run of Legend of Dragoon, and playing Shining Force CD, after those I'm gonna start a run of Ogre Battle as well.

I stopped playing Ogre Battle for now. I really like it, but the battles just drag on forever and I'm not even halfway done with the game yet. I'll pick it up again at some point. I can't imagine playing this game on the SNES; it takes me up to 3 hours to complete a battle sometimes, if I'm trying to liberate all of the towns/get a special character. I really appreciate the fact that the PSX version lets you save at any time.

I decided to pick up Vagrant Story and give the New Game+ a whirl. Currently having a blast exploring all of the areas that are unavailable on a first playthrough. Haven't spent as much time crafting this go-round, but I might do a bit later. I got the big, optional dungeon and super-boss to conquer, and then I'll finish up the game.

Next up: Threads of Fate, Beyond the Beyond or Tactics Ogre. Or something else...

If It's taking 3 hours for a battle, you're doing something wrong, the average battle takes 45-60min, and very few take longer then 2 hours.

What do your formations look like? also a good tactic would be to pincer attack the enemy, this way they can't flee(damn cowards).

Also you can discover cities afterwards, so I suggest only liberate the ones that are hidden in obvious spots(and ofcourse liberate all the visible ones), and don't bother looking for buried treasure at all until after you clear the map.

I've never had issues playing the SNES version before, infact that's the only version I play(I must've played the game through over a dozen times atleast by now).

I have pretty good units, my problem now it they're all leveled up too high. Every time I kill something it results in a loss of charisma and alignment (and if I kill anything with my leader, it'll lower my reputation bar, as well). Also, doesn't killing enemies that are fleeing (in other words, without a leader) really lower those things? If I wasn't going for the best ending this wouldn't really be a problem, but what I have to do is severely weaken an enemy unit and then get one of my lower-leveled units to kill it. This tends to make encounters kinda drag on for a while. I also like to liberate every town on a map on my first visit because that's the only way you can get money from them. You don't get any tribute bonuses after you clear a map.

Also, there are often multiple things on a map that you have to do in order to get certain special characters to join you, and I just played through a bunch of stages like that. So I dunno. Some of the maps just take me a real long time I guess. If I were more experienced with the game maybe that wouldn't be the case, but this is my first playthrough.

Oh lol, yea the game doesn't look highly upon over leveled units.

I figured it was your first playthough(yet you're going for a secret pain in the but ending), but by all means, if you know where the hidden places are, liberate them(and yea you get bonus funds, but low funds aren't a issue in this game, that's for sure, so It's really not that big of a deal).

Also if I recall while yes you do get a penalty for attackery leaderless squads, but It's so minor, that it shouldn't really effect the playthrough.

I played a little bit of bomberman quest today using a super gameboy for snes, so far it's a interesting game. its like zelda but with bomberman characters. I also played super mario 3d land for a while today, it's a bit on the easy side but still enjoyable.

Hmmm, interesting. I guess I just assumed money would be an issue, so I should try to stockpile as much as possible. And yeah, I decided to go for the "pain in the butt" ending first, just so I could just get it out of the way. Maybe I should have waited until a subsequent playthrough, but I'm about halfway through the game now, and I really don't want to have made all that progress for nothing.

Thanks for the info, maybe I'll go back to this one sooner than I thought.

I made some more progress in Metroid Zero Mission tonight. I'm really blown away by how good the game is. The series never appealed to me much, but this game and Metroid II are changing my opinion.
You know who else loves Sega....

Yea unless you have a bunch of wierd squads(like Dragons, and other large formations) or waste way too much money on the item shops, money shouldn't be an issue, ever.

If I recall, my most expensive(real squad) cost under 10,000-12,000(forgot the exact number), which it had a Lich, and a Princess in it(omg the destruction is insane), however by the time you can even make a Lich, you should be rich. Um so yea, your standard squads shouldn't be eating up all your money.

    Oh ok, and yep np.

Yeah I made a squad with a Princess and a Lich as soon as I was able too (it just happened that both of the pre-promoted characters were grouped together, I hadn't planned it that way), I was shocked how utterly destructive they are together! They kill any squad they go up against!

It's crazy, just the Princess alone in a squad that without her would be subpar, is turned into a very good one, but a Squad with both Princess, and a Lich in it, is evil(the phrase overkill comes to mind lol).

Speaking of which, I got a staff to drop, now all I need is a Undead Ring, and I could make my Lich this run.

Nice. I actually have two Liches and two Princesses in my game, just completed the 16th battle or so. They are definitely OP!

Wow you got lucky with item drops, huh(2 crowns in a single game is pretty rare, atleast there's a quest for a free staff, no such luck for the crown)?

I thought I got one of the crowns through a quest or something, but maybe you're right and I've just been fortunate with the drops.
