Tried out the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD (XBLA) trial and the SSX (the new one) demo.

    They're both awesome, mostly SSX.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty on the PS2. I'm just barely passed the prologue, but I already love this game. Really enjoying all of the new additions to the gameplay, especially dog tags. They really scratch my "ocd collector" itch!

Wonderboy in Monsterworld on the Mega Drive. I am stuck in the desert by now, the bats are annoying little bastards! Gotta love the game, always been a fan of Zelda since I seen Link to the Past on SNES.

    Free your music,

I picked up Renegade Ops on steam recently and I've been playing the hell out of it. It's a great overhead twinstick shooter with a lot of similarities to JACKAL (for Arcade/NES) with plenty of it's own innovations. Best $10 I've spent in quite awhile. Happens to be published by Sega as well.

Trying to play the NES version of Strider over here, and I must say it's a bit hard due to the extreme difference in actual reach and visual reach of your weapon.

The attack in nature is much similar to the MD and Arcade one. But the reach is just about maybe 1/3 of the visual length of the attack.
It gets a bit frustrating at times since I keep falling back into believing the reach is the same as the other versions I've played :B

Gameplay wise it's far from similar to the original, it's a pretty interesting play though, but you're not quite as nimble as in the other versions.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for PSX. I played it back in the 90s when it first came out, but I hadn't played it since. My God, this game is spectacular. I just started playing this week, so I'm not even halfway through it yet, but it's quickly becoming one of my favorites. I remember liking it when it came out, but I never got into it all that much back then. I've been missing out for all these years.

I've been giving the original Castlevania a solid run lately. After multiple continues this afternoon, I finally made it to the grim reaper with full health and a fully-powered boomerang.

    And then the game froze.

One of the things I love about the original castlevania is all the secrets and easter eggs. Like at the very beginning you can jump over the entrance and it will make a bag of gold appear. Timing has to be just right to do it or you'll automatically enter the doorway. Then just a little further on there's the two blocks you can destroy but are empty, but if you walk into the hole they left a crown will appear.

I've been playing the PS1 port of Metal Slug X. I've also got the 4 & 5 compilation for the ps2, but neither of them are as good or pretty as X. I've also been playing my copy of Mysterious Song for the TurboCD I just got in.

@profholt82: In the library of the reverse castle if you kill enough ghosts one will eventually drop a sword that kicks insane ass. It's like it turns Alucard into strider. I love that game too. The original and still the best of the metroidvanias.

In my ongoing quest to see how much Accolade/Infogrames/Atari missed the point of the original Test Drive games starting with Test Drive 4, I tried out all three Test Drive Off-Road games for the PS1.

TDOR1 and 2 aren't so good, but TDOR3 is surprisingly enjoyable, to be honest. Plus it has this as an unlockable vehicle:

One thing I gotta say is that the Test Drive games from that time had some fucking sweet intros. They definitely made you wanna play the game. Think of every car-related FMV from the original Need for Speed, but on crack. And with awesome music. Hell, some of TDOR1's FMVs are basically just footage of one specific vehicle going around off the road.

I played a little bit of Rondo of Blood today. I got through the pirate ship stage without dying and beat Death on my second try. I was shocked at how tame of a fight it was, nothing compared to Castlevania 3. It's been so long since I've played CV4 I can't remember how that fight was, but I'm guessing a two year old could beat it. I've never reached him in Bloodlines.
You know who else loves Sega....
