All the model 1 Genesis/Megadrives systems I line audio out of through the earphone jack have some kind of buzzing/static noise.
Is there a way to work around this? Do I need some kind of premium cables or something?

has nothing to do with cables or things like that. it has something to do with the power in genesis crossing over through to the audio and you can hear it as noise.
Is there anything I can do to minimize it?Originally Posted by lilmul123
Get a Genesis that has "High Definition Graphics" written behind the cartridge slot and the EXT jack on the back. Those have better audio.
I have no noises in my MD1 of such type as Joe recommends.
To minimalize the noise you may want to add some caps between the power lines in your MD.

We Europeans not only have "High Definition Graphics", but also the greatness of "Stereo Sound" as a manifest to the supreme technology of PAL tellitolies.
Buy stuff at the Magical Game Factory, WaterMelon's crowd funding video game development site!
Do YOU have any games you want to get rid of that haven't been reviewed on the site and needs to be beaten for the sake of this project? Send 'em to me and I'll review and beat them! I'll pay for shipping of course. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.
I had thought that the "High Definition Graphics" were only supposed to have a more authentic/better quality sound, as most/all model 1's seem to have over later models.
My main playing systems lately have been a fully modded non-HDG model 1 Genesis and a model 1 japanese Megadrive. Both produced that buzzing sound.
I found two "High Definition Graphics" systems on my surplus shelf, but they were both dirty second hand store purchases. I took the time to clean one up properly, hooked it up and...
-no static/buzzing whatsoever!
Now I can play games without feeling uncomfortable about it. Although I'm not completely satisfied with the slight haze that the XMD3 produces. But its still only slightly different than my S-Video modded systems and a world of difference over composite.
Unfortunately, Monster World IV won't play on it. Does anyone know which model 1 Megadrive systems don't buzz and how to identify them?
I can't do any kind of mods, fortunately I don't need to now.Originally Posted by TmEE

Can non "high definition graphic" models (or as I call them model 1B's) be properly modded to remove the static and have the exact same quality as model 1A's?
Yes, just get a very good artist, some good paint, and very very carefully apply "High Definition Graphics" around the top of the cartridge slot...then outline the Sega logo in white.
You should be just fine after that.
Geez... why did Sega make so many revisions to the Genesis anyway?!? I mean the model 1 was produced fo 2 years tops and there are around 5 different versions of it!
Could those tiny little cost cutting measures have really saved them that much money?
My Genny could beat up your Genny with its controllers behind its back!
Who knows, they made a crap load of different Saturn revisions too. Anyone know if they did the same for the Dreamcast?Originally Posted by Sticky Note
mine buzzes bad too you can really hear it when you turn the volume down to lower levels.
There are few revisons of the Dreamcast. One infamous one does not play burned games.
