Not that I intend to do so, in the forseeable future anyway - but yeah. I don't suppose anything much counts as proper "proof", does it. Just thinking "out loud". :/
For some reason this reminds me of the question I'm constantly asked.

Q: Are you sure none of them were faking?

    A: **indifferent shrug**

At the end of the day, as long as you can't tell the difference (and no one you know can prove otherwise), it doesn't really matter.

Well, it usually does matter when the value of the real thing is worlds apart from the fakes. That definitely means something when you're the one buying...

You're kind of stepping on my joke a little, but besides the point, that's not necessarily true.

Don't worry, it raised a smirk. (Or did it? You'll never know )

I know it's better to be philosophical about the whole thing (it's 'just' old video games, after all - not a great thing to depend on as currency either), but I have visions of selling a chunk of collection and some arsehole turning around, crying "fake!", and claiming back the money. Which would annoy anyone I'm sure, and could arguably be easier to get away with if there's countless barely-distinguishable reproductions out there. (There's probably more produced every day... every hour... (*shudder*). I'm also aware there's 1001 ways to be scammed already, but I can't say it doesn't irk me to think that repros might provide a few more.

In related news, I bid on a repro (Snow Bros) the other week, without noticing (possibly somewhat frazzled in the early morning as now :/). I only became suspicious with 2 days to go when it had no other bids. I cancelled my bid and shook my fist at the ceiling. True story... except for the fist shaking part - nobody up there cares about my bidding story. Probably nobody here either.

Well, there is a sure fire way to spot reproduction Genesis games... Open em up and check if it's ROM chip is a windowed EPROM, or anything other than a normal mask ROM.

Except that opening up a Japanese cart requires you to damage the back label by either peeling or puncturing it.

There's other cool stuff that I got last week, mainly cheapo PSP/DS games and Xenoblade Chronicles with Artbook from Gamestop. The local media store had some handheld games on cheap and my brother in law gave me his old Game Gear (including Shining Force: Sword of Hajya), which was a nice bonus. But the awesome score was when I got back in town. I'd been talking with a guy who sold me this for $30 (I apologize for the crappy picture from my phone)

A Pioneer CLD A100 LaserDisc Player with remote control, AKA a LaserActive.

This one doesn't have any control PACs, but looks a lot nicer than my current LaserActive player and comes with the remote control which is a bonus. Can't beat the price though, and now I've got a backup of every platform I own! (excluding the arcade cabinet I guess)

News to me, that's pretty crappy. Reminds me of Tengen carts. At least you can still get the PCB out of those, just unscrew the bottom two screws and flex the shell apart and wiggle the PCB out.

Though this brings up a question... How would the repro-er get inside the cartridge? The back label is still in the way. A reprinted label could be applied, but much like the front label it'd be different. What is the back label like on JP Mega Drive carts? Is it real glossy or kinda cheap?

I didn't see the 1P icon or genre icon in the inital pic, see it now. No worries,
The smell of scorched oil hangs in the air as a premonition of danger, while the engine gloriously shouts its war cry...

Throughout history, suspicion has always bred conflict. The real conflict, though, resides in people's hearts. This conflict has just begun.

Not too many games lately, just Dead Island and Silent Hill Downpour for 360. Bought quite a few movies though.

    Maximum Overdrive
    Freejack
    The Fly '86 Collector's Edition
    Total Recall Special Edition
    Crying Freeman (live action)
Starman: The Complete Series (Sony Manufacture On Demand)

and I just placed a pre-order on Golgo 13 Collection 3 which FINALLY ships on 4/24/12.

Picked this up at a local retro game shop.

It's dated 1990. More pics of it on my flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/1333271...th/7096902261/

I uploaded a video of it in action.

Xenoblade Chronicles and Dirty Pair Features

Also downloaded House of the Dead 4 from the PSN. It sucks with the analog sticks! To those with the Playstation Move, can I just buy that stupid little camera and the Move controller separately, or do I need to buy the Move Starter Bundle?

Wow that SNES Test Cart looks super unique. Did the shop know what it was?
