I'm not "envying" him per se, that would insinuate jealousy, which is against my beliefs and morals. I'm actually quite content where I am, with my somewhat low-paying job at a garden supply store. I'm simply trying to state that I would enjoy being able to spend large amounts on money on video games and not have to worry about too many other responsibilities.

And yes I do know that I have to work hard to get anything. It's not like I haven't already experienced it.

You have a lot ahead of you. You can be anything you want. Just don't settle for a garden job at 16.

Unlike most people my age, I actually know what I want to do with my life. I'm going to school to become a Chinese translator/teacher and also professional musician.

There are tons of jobs in China and Korea where you can teach English (they pay on average about the same as they would any American 6-12th grade teacher). You also get some bonuses like free stay in some areas and other such things. It's not exactly translating to Chinese; but you'll be living the dream, imo. You can always do music professionally. You still would have to go to college (a 4 year degree) at the very minimum. My best recommendation is that you do a 4 year degree in music (on the instrument of your choice) with a minor in English (or any variant thereof). Although, I'm thinking most music degrees nowadays are given under the same department (Arts and Sciences) anyways.

At any rate, let's not spam this awesome thread with Off-Topic conversation. It's one of most people's favorite threads (including me). PM me if you have any questions.

Wow a whole page all about me... normally this sort of thing would get me hard, but I just had surgery yesterday to break up a large kidney stone and currently have a stint in my penis to prevent it from healing shut with a string hanging out of the end which generates intense pain any time it moves. So, getting hard is not an option. A simple wry smile will have to suffice.

All that loot was actually about $2,000. It was the $1,200 purchase I had mentioned right before as well a couple other ($700 and $100) hauls.

And I certainly hope no one envies me. I have a terrible addiction to eBay. I can't wait until I finally stop, sell everything, and find a new hobby.

That actually sounds kind of miserable. I probably envy a few games you have that I want, but I certainly don't begrudge you even a percentage of your whole collection. I know I don't have time to play the few hundred games I have, much less all that.

How long have you been on this particular hobby? What was your previous one?

Edit: Sorry if this is too Off Topic for the Haul thread.

I consider the first time I purchased a game on eBay (September '01) to be when I started collecting. I was 17 at that point and didn't really have a hobby before - unless you count playing Magic: the Gathering which turned to garbage many, many moons ago and not worth revisiting. I have no idea what I'd do if I purged everything. I'd like to start developing board games. Or I might focus more on my poetry and try to get something published.

Oh, and to keep this a haul post, I got a CIB Choplifter III for Game Gear.

Since I have been picking up a bunch of PC Engine Duo stuff lately (I've bought 28 games in the last few days, plus a new Duo-R, all boxed), I decided to pick up some reading to go along with it:

Those are issues 2-4 of Turbo Force Magazine. Only 4 issues were made. It was the official Turbo Duo magazine in the US, from the time TTI took over until the system ended. NEC was goddamn atrocious in the US, but once TTI took over handling the Turbo Grafx in the US in late 1992 - which coincided with the launch of the Turbo Duo, the output in the US increased dramatically in quality. Though most of the good stuff for the PC Engine Duo stayed in japan, virtually all of the good Turbo Duo stuff we actually got in the US is thanks to TTI. TTI also marketed the system much better, even though by early 93, the battle was already lost.

Issue 1 of Turbo Force was included with the US Turbo Duo. I have a japanese PC Engine Duo, and now a PC Engine Duo-R, but no US duo. I intend to buy one eventually. Anyways, issues 2-4 weren't sold in stores. They could only be purchased via mail order from issue 1. Turbo Force was produced by EGM, and shares the format and layout of EGM2 from around the same time - late '92 till the end of '93. It feels pretty much like a Turbo Duo exclusive EGM2, with strategy guides.

The magazines I bought are in pristine condition. Without a single wrinkle or fold. They actually came in plastic holders, and look like they've never even been thumbed through. There isn't even a crease along the edge of the magazine where the staples are. This is exactly as the magazines would have looked brand new in 1993. I'm embarrassed by the amount I paid for these, so I won't say, but I think this is a pretty neat oddity to go along with my Turbo Duo collection. When I find a US Turbo Duo, I'll have the entire print of the magazine.

That is some class memorabilia. I would buy all the Sega Saturn UK Magazines but I just can't justify picking them up over buying more games. Rep'd.

Well get well soon SpaceFlea, kidney stones suck.

I hear you somewhat on the eBay addiction, I just try to limit how much I look at random stuff online so I don't get too caught up in it all. Though, some of those JP sellers with nice combined shipping make it very easy for me to pick up a couple cheapies just to take advantage of discounted shipping.

Craigslist and thrifts are my weak spot though, maybe because it's fun to find something randomly that you never though you needed (hehe, the Talkboy) then grab it and mess around with it for at least an afternoon.

Thanks! Whats neat about these magazines is how familiar they feel because they use EGM2's assets. Also, the last issue ends with Winter CES 93, which was sort of like the E3 of its day. Tons of cancelled games in the back, and beta screenshots that changed. It shows a picture of Riot Zone, for example, then called Riot City, with a 2-player option, for example.

Riot Zone was the name of the original arcade version (another Wonder Boy-ish case between Sega and Westone), so maybe it was an arcade screenshot?

I don't think so, since it was demoed at CES. There's been a lot of confusion as to whether or not Riot Zone on the PC Engine originally had a 2 player option or not. Tons of outlets reported it would be dual-player when it was announced, and even Turbo force adds a bit to the confusion. Under the info for the game, it says "1 or Players." It doesn't actually say 2 players, but there is clearly a typo. either they meant "1 or 2 players" or had assumed it was 2 players, but were told it was going to be 1 player only, and fucked up on editing the info. In any case, there is a screenshot of the title - Riot City - which lets us know it's not the arcade version, and it shows both players on screen in another screenshot.

Crap, I screwed up. Riot City was the original arcade version's name, not Riot Zone.

And as for the screens, were the player characters named differently? Also, did the HUD have a big black border on the top of the screen like in the final release?

I'll check when I get home. The sprites look like the Turbo CD version, though.

there are other, smaller neat differences with other games, though. New Adventure island was shown off as Super Adventure Island, and since this was before the name Zonk was chosen, Air Zonk is called both Cyber Bonk and Bonk of the Future in the previews, both of which were working names.

They also show off a blurry screenshot of a supposed Cosmic Fantasy III translation, which was supposed to come via working design.
