Default Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants

Ay Carumba! Gamers everywhere released a collective sigh when Acclaim subsidary Flying Edge took reign of the Simpsons license. It was as though they knew what to expect. They were unfortunately proven right, as Bart vs. the Space Mutants proved to be a frustrating exercise in self punishment. The suffering eventually made its way to Sega Land, and Genesis gamers got to empathize with their NES-owning rivals for once. We here at Sega-16 ate some shorts and put it through its paces for a full review, so read on and then go hug that copy of the Simpsons Game for all of us.

    WTF

I used to love this game on the NES. It was one of the most difficult alongside Battletoads, and easily one of the NES games I played the most during my teen times.

It's weird to see it (the NES version) being bashed nowadays, because it was hugely popular among us kids in Brazil back then....
And it's also weird that I never played the Genesis port.

I guess I can't comment on whether it's good or bad, I played both versions and never could figure out how to get anywhere. I may give it a try on the NES to see if I can make it anywhere.

This is easily one of the worst Simpsons games. The later ones for Genesis were all pretty decent.

I think its a good game. Really good actually! The first level is so innovative. How many action/franchise games on the NES at the time had you going into your inventory trying to figure out how to get rid of purple birds with bottle rockets or purple parrots with cherry bombs? It made no sense in a Simpsons kinda way but it was a neat game! Seriously the first level was awesome but it was all downhill after that. My friend beat it back in the day but I don't think I could get past the third level.

You guys are all crazy. The game is awesome. It's leaps and bounds above many other licensed games from that era. The biggest complaint about this game is that its too hard! And really there are so many WORSE Simpson games out there like Oh I dunno Bart VS the World, Bart meats radioactive man, Escape from Kamp Krusty, Krustys fun house. These games are all retarded compared to this one!

You got off easy, I chose to *purchase* this game over "Star Tropics".

The control on the NES version was total shit. This is the #1 source I use to explain how it is possible for the video game gods to cry.

Why does the review only discuss items in the first level? It this because the reviewer, like myself, has never been bothered with this frustrating tosh to bother beyond the start of level 2 and that hat tosh?

You know a game sucks when even a game genie can't make the game fun.

I used a GG and made it to level 3 *ONCE*. The game was too shitty to attempt it ever again.

Is it OK if it just stands "Nissling" at the review and not "Sebastian Nissling"? My last name isn't Nissling so it's a little bit messed up

It's a damn shame that Acclaim owned the Simpsons rights for the consoles because I would've killed for a Konami Simpsons arcade port on the Genesis/Mega Drive

The best Simpsons game on the Mega Drive, imo, is the unreleased Itchy and Scratchy game. Good graphics and decent gameplay compared with all other Acclaim's Simpsons games.

And yes, I agree about Konami's Simpsons. Possibly the best game ever made in the franchise. It only got (mediocre) ports for the PC and Commodore 64.

Itchy and Scratchy was released on the Game Gear. Looks pretty much like the same game to me but perhaps not in every way.
