Default Night Trap: "I'd much rather stay here and enjoy our new guests."

I broke this out again for the first time in a few years, and I still have way too much of the dialogue and events memorized.

Whether you love or hate the FMV genre thing, there's no denying that this game's chock full of comedy gold, whether deliberate or otherwise.

<~whoever's playing is guaranteed an early game over)

The game so infamous, it killed Dana Plato's career(her actual death was her own fault, sadly).

I was going to write a FAQ for the game to lay out all the times to view the numerous story events at(since many of them happen simultaneously), but I realized it was going to take way too long.

The controversy over the game is really silly in hindsight nowadays, since the most violent scene involves a suspended body being drained of blood. There's practically no gore whatsoever.

The psuedo-sequel Double Switch is also excellent(and much harder to get a perfect run on, if even possible), but I guess that's another story.

In some ways, Night Trap's the most demanding, since getting the good ending requires trapping each and every one of the Augers, even during the best story event in the game(when the SCAT team storm the house in the finale), during which they show up everywhere.

Also, the Aug music is classic.

Oh, and even though it got ported all over the place (3D0, PC, Sega CD again), I still prefer the 'red box'('uncut') version, for the SCAT team being called the 'Sega Control Attack Team', and using a Genesis Controller in the introduction(they were dubbed the Special Control Attack Team in the subsequent ports).

The Sega CD exlusive intro was the best. They should have retained it for the 32X version... no reason not to. Aside from the newer, lethargic intro on the 32X and 3DO versions, I didn't notice anything else different (other than the extra color, video size, etc etc).

Oh, and Dana Plato killed Dana Plato's career, not this game.

This game rocks! Original red-box version is the best too. Great game. Double Switch has corey haim who is not dead, but probably will be soon...I guess FMV games had a way of ruining careers:

    ...Above...
Marky Mark--well Wahlberg I guess is an "actor" (in theory anyway) now...but the rest are washups

INXS---This is the only one I'm slightly disappointed about...but a death didn't help either...

C&C Power Factory: Thank the lord this is over...

yeah! Go ruined careers...maybe there is an unspoken curse?

But Plano & Haim's careers were already in the toilet before their respective FMV games. People with good careers do not sign on to do FMV games.

I've got this game for my Mega CD. It's not great, but it can be fun to watch the girls having party

I've appreciated movies more than any party I've ever been to, any time I've masturbated, any music I've ever listened to, any girl I've ever loved, any game I've ever played, any food I've ever eaten, any tv-series I've ever seen, any trip I've ever done and any life I've ever lived.

How does one actually play this game? I've seen some videoes on youtube, but I just can't seem to grasp what the f*** is going on? It just seems like one video running on rails to me...

It's a lot trickier than it looks. You have to constantly switch between the eight rooms to keep tabs on what's going on. If you spend all your time watching the story cinemas, the intruders(Augers) will overrun the house.

You get a game over if the intruder number gets higher than the captured number by 20. (Except in the endgame, when the SCAT team are too busy storming the house to care about the trap count.)

When the augs go over a certain trap(each room has one to two of them), you trigger the trap, and they go plummeting to their death(usually with hilarious results).

You also have to keep an eye out on the family in the house, since they can change the code to the traps. If you don't change it, you can't trigger them.

And on top of all that, when the Augers attack one of the visitors, if you don't save them, gave over(excluding Danny and Crazy Eddie, since who cares about them :P).

On Double Switch, I recall it having a much better cast overall than Night Trap's. I think they were making fun of themselves by that point. It has some of the funniest trap sequences ever.

("You tell Luigi and Mario, their days are numbered!")

One thing about the new intro: it's a lot darker and gloomier. Takes itself more seriously. The original is just hilarious. I like how the game's already started by the time they start describing the mission.

And I don't recall Dana actually being in anything after this before she died, but I sure wasn't keeping track.

As for FMV games killing careers, let's not forget Kris Kross Make My Video(my favorite, mostly for the DJ dishing out epic insults to random callers).

Well........I meant the current-day Haim, star of "The Two Coreys".

I was kind of trying to bait people to just tear him apart.

    Man, what a LOOOOOOOOOOSERRRRRRRR.

He's actually independently producing Double Switch Two for the Sega Saturn, but just found out that it's 2008 and he's been ruined for 15 years and just hadn't noticed yet...

Speaking to Double Switch, I searched for the Sega Mega CD-version in over nine months until I found it. I shop at Tradera so that's the reason. But I searched in only one week until I got my hands on Night Trap.

I've seen Double Switch for the Sega CD quite a bit... but the Saturn one is rare as piss in my travels. Go figure.
The smell of scorched oil hangs in the air as a premonition of danger, while the engine gloriously shouts its war cry...

Throughout history, suspicion has always bred conflict. The real conflict, though, resides in people's hearts. This conflict has just begun.
