    Default Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure

A legend returns...well, sort of. Pitfall Harry has been kidnapped, and it's up to his son to save him. Activision brought the franchise back in a big way when they released Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure for all a multitude of systems. We've got a review of the Genesis version for you, so pull up a chair and check it out!

I think it's in the top 5 for how many systems one game is on.

Ok, this thread is as old as it gets, but I thought perhaps I'd revive it:

Quoting myself: Considering it was released after Disney's The Jungle Book (for Genesis/MD), one would assume it was a complete rip-off. It's like replacing Mowgli with, as mentioned by the reviewer, an Indiana Jones Look-Alike and stamping it with a Pitfall Title. However, I guess this is why reviews are beneficial--no matter how many times I've researched this game, I never knew it was originally intended for the NES.

Did anyone catch the same "Jungle Book" vibe when playing this game?

Are there any significant differences in the versions?

I never could get the hang of this whenever I played it on Genesis at a friend's house. However, when I picked up a SNES version recently, I really loved it!

Well, beyond the Indiana Jones look-alike sprite to replace Mowgli, the obvious platforming structure has to be different, if at least slighltly. Allow me to rephrase my previous comment, then: If you replace the Indiana Jones Look-Alike from pitfall with Mowgli, who knows, you might just bump into Shere Khan in that Jungle if you're not careful enough... Although I wouldn't be so sure Baloo will be there to save you.

I think the 32X and Sega CD versions had more levels or something, but I'm not sure.

I read the same thing on the review. I have to try and beat the genesis version first before I check out those other two.

P.S.> I'm not complaining about it, though. Just pointing out the obvious. I actually like the game (Pitfall, of course... because when it comes to the Jungle Book, I just LOVE IT!)
