Default Does anybody around here read?

    You know, for fun?

I have a somewhat respectable library myself, consisting mainly of Stephen King. I also have the complete works of Chuck Palahniuk, and a number of books by Harold Robbins because I'm a perv.

Other authors I like are Peter Benchley, HG Wells, Richard Matheson, Nick Hornsby, and Michael Crichton, even though his stories are crap.

I should like Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, but I landed on Red Dwarf instead.

So what about you? I'm sure there are at least one or two other bookworms out there.

I am illiterate, unfortunately. Well actually I can write, but I cannot read.

I'm not exactly a banner waving fan of his early stuff, but I really like the stories he put out during the middle of his career. Tommyknockers is my favorite, and I also really like IT and Needful Things.

I also really like his short story collections, especially Night Shift and Skeleton Crew.

His latest stuff, not so much. But From a Buick 8 was pretty good - almost a return to his older, weirder style of writing.

It is a favorite of mine. The Stand may be my absolute favorite, and The Dark Tower series is always enjoyable (though is does degrade in quality towards book 5). Good Stuff.

As for other authors, Neil Gaiman is always excellent, and George R R Martin is near perfect if you're into the fantasy genre.

I can talk for an hour about literature, but I'm about to leave for a concert, I'll pick this up later

I just read painful textbooks for school. Mostly poly Ssci, some law and history. Very painful. I don't feel like reading after I finish with those things.

I love reading. I do like some early Stephen King, and the Dune series. I'm also a huge Douglas Adams fan, and I really, really like Terry Pratchett.

    I love reading:
I'm a huge Philip K. Dick fanboy and have almost every novel and short story he ever published and have read about 99% of it.

I also love Yukio Mishima, excellent writer...the Sailor Who Fell From Grace With the Sea is one of the most compelling novels (I hate people who say that...but still) I've ever read.

I also read anything I can get my hands on about the Thirty Years War (english and German) or the Sengoku/Christian century period in Japan. I also read tons of stuff on firearms, gunsmithing, shooting in general. I love history, I love my hobbies etc. and I read as much as I can.

School lately, and my sorta general funk has kept me from reading anything in the last few months for my own enjoyment. The last book I finished was Frank Herbert's Dune and that was like 6 months ago. I normally read about 2-3 books per month.

Dune was pretty awesome, but I could have skipped about 6 chapters and it would have been better. All those scenes of Paul with the Fremen just started to really drive me nuts.

I used to read a lot in the past. Apart from some comic books here and there, shame on me for keeping my free time full of gaming and movies...

Anyway, I also dig Stephen King a lot. Night Shift and Green Mile are my favorites. Last time I remember reading a lot, in college, I was really into the works of Graham Greene, O. Henry, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Mary Higgins Clark.

My favorite books of all time are Dracula (Bram Stoker), Les Miserables (Victor Hugo) and Dom Casmurro (Machado de Assis).

Yeah, I figured you were pretty well-read, and why am I not surprised that I have heard of virtually none of those authors?

I don't read a lot of sci fi or fantasy, but I did enjoy Ender's Game and The Hobbit!

I also like a lot of classic novels. I read Watership Down for the first time a few years ago, and it is now one of my favorites. I've loved Lord of the Flies since high school. I even bought Moby Dick a few years back, but I was kidding myself.

One book I really liked is called Hothouse by Brian Aldiss. Haven't been able to find it in hardcover, though.

I've read Micheal Stackpole's X-Wing series three times, and a whole bunch of Terry Pratchett's books.

Just picked up another copy of 1984, and a few old tech books. I'm so geeky I keep old tech books to read (things like Atari Basic, Atari ST Internals, neat old stuff).

Watership Down rocks, and I won't be afraid to say that Wind in the Willows is one of my favorite books too...but yeah, thanks I really take that as a complement.

Makes me think I have more potential...oh well..

To be quite honest I really hate reading books... at least fiction, anyway. I can read a thick technical manual without issue. Books are too slow and boring (and I read fairly quick) but I think I'd rather actually be doing something.

I was a fan of R. A. Salvatore for a while. Kept reading one book immediately after another. Eventually got burned out. I like to read random horror short story collections. A few books by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child were decent. Some other random books I don't remember the titles of or the authors of, anymore.

Yeah, the Relic books were both pretty good.
