I have been reading "The Good War" by Studs Terkel. It is a bunch of interviews from people who lived though WWII. Good stuff. The overall thing I have noticed form reading all of these is the growth the industrial military complex during and after the war. The more I read the more it is pounded into my head that the military was nothing before the war. I sort of already knew this but it really drives it home.

I'm currently finishing Neverwhere, which has been just as wonderful as I expected. What should I read next? These are my two choices:

I would put off reading a Feast for Crows until "Chinese Democracy" comes out.

Whoops, did I say Chinese Democracy? I totally meant A Dance With Dragons

He's written himself into a corner, and has writers block with how to fix it. He's still too focused on bouncing around to conventions and blog posting his regrets to fans while 'focusing' on his glorious return to 'TV Script writing' (Game of Thrones pilot for HBO).

Well the first three books in the series are the best fantasy I've ever read, and I've heard that A Feast For Crows is just as good. The only reason I didn't start it a year or so ago is because it doesn't focus on my two favorite characters: Tyrion and Jon. Of course, that explains why I CAN'T WAIT for A Dance With Dragons.

Starting Hyperion today. Neverwhere was wonderful though, and I'm sure I'll post a mini-review of it sometime soon. I love Neil Gaiman. From Sandman to American Gods, everything he does is just so great. His writing style, for instance, is perfect.

I have a somewhat respectable library myself, consisting mainly of Stephen King. I also have the complete works of Chuck Palahniuk, and a number of books by Harold Robbins because I'm a perv.

Other authors I like are Peter Benchley, HG Wells, Richard Matheson, Nick Hornsby, and Michael Crichton, even though his stories are crap.

I should like Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, but I landed on Red Dwarf instead.

So what about you? I'm sure there are at least one or two other bookworms out there.
I read the entire Hitchhikers series in less than a month. The first three were fantastic, but the last two were severely lacking. They were too confusing and not as funny (or in the 5th books case, not funny at all). I was so mad about how it ended, that I was in a state of seething silence for two days. I tried to read Red Dwarf, but I just didn't like it. The only good thing about it was that it mentioned the Hitchhikers series on the back cover, which prompted me to check those out.
You know who else loves Sega....

    IP GIVEAWAY

I can't throw away books. Unless it's utter trash. Normally I drop these off at the local used book shop, but I figured I'd list them here first. If there's any takers, just post here or PM me. First come first serve. And these are completely free. I'll cover shipping since I'm such a nice guy

Things Fall Apart - Bought for a lit class. Not what I would normally search out and read, but that being said, it was excellent.
The Fall - Lit class again. Story told through second person pov. Interesting, heavy on philosophy. Not my usual cup of tea.
The Plague - By the same author as The Fall, Albert Camus. I liked this one muuuuch better. Town overrun by the plague. Lots of death and gruesome details. Good times.
Sula - Yeah... lit class again. It's brilliant, but I doubt many of you guys are interested in African American Feminist literature. But if you ARE, then this is good stuff.
Ender's Game - The one and only. Fun read, easy sci-fi.
    Xenocide - Ender story
Ender's Shadow - Follows an important ancillary Ender's Game character.
Shadow of the Hegemon - Sequel to Ender's Shadow... or is it the other way around? I always get confused.
Swan Song - Apocalyptic literature, very much like Stephen King's The Stand. Awesome book.

No pressure, like I said, no takers means I'll be taking these to the closest used bookstore.

The first four books sound interesting. I like Camus. And I'm already in San Diego county...

I'm interested in Shadow of the Hegemon, as well as Swan Song if you insist that it is so awesome.

Jerry Coeurl - Things Fall Apart (awesome book), The Fall, The Plague, and Sula.
Falxix - Shadow of the Hegemon and Swan Song

    That leaves:

Ender's Game - The one and only. Fun read, easy sci-fi.
    Xenocide - Ender story
Ender's Shadow - Follows an important ancillary Ender's Game character.

"Stephen King thinks Stephanie Meyer is bad writer?!"

    Twilight Fan Reaction:

Yes it's kind of old. I'm bored.

Don't even get me started on Stephanie Meyer's fanbase. It doesn't help any that I work with middle-aged women that worship her. Ugh.

I remember reading Stephen King's comment a while back and thinking: "ooooh, that's a little mean. But totally true."
