Default Are there hi-def CRT t.v.s?

Just curious, because I love the CRT. The colors on my new SD CRT look fantastic. It's the best looking picture I've ever had on a t.v.. My mom bought a 42'' LCD HD tv and the color looks really dull, washed out etc. My CRT though it's only 27'' the picture looks amazing. I really dislike LCD tv's, I've never seen one where the picture really stood out. On my CRT the picture is great, and I just hope there is something out there where the picture will look just as good...

CRTs are a dead breed here... I spent lot of time finding one... which is a 10year old 28" Philips to replace my 21" Philips... I don't know anything about HD ones, only things with HD put on them here are various LCDs and Plasmas which all suck... LCDs are ust full of blur and Plasmas all have their screens full of compression artifact like stuff where as the LCDs don't ( ? )... and that Plasmas die young.

Yes, there are, but no longer in production.
The sony 34" XBR set was the best, and has picture quality much better than even the best of "new" tech sets out today.

As far as current stuff, Plasma sets are by far the best in terms of picture quality.
My next TV will be a pioneer kuro plasma. (unless SED actually makes it to market)

LCD is getting better, but really fails at contrast (and particularly detail in dark scenes).
DLP is just junk. I wouldnt consider a DLP set at all. LCoS is better (Sony's SXRD, and i think JVC makes/made an LCoS RPTV), but any rear projection set has trouble getting good blacks levels.

I have a Sony 34XBR960 and I don't care too much for it. It looks really good, but there are way too many distortions in the picture (it can't draw a straight line to save its life). The corners don't converge well, either. There's not much I can do about any of this, even in the service menu. I am now waiting for OLED or SED or whatever.

sounds like yours has gone bad...
a professional calibrator MAY be able to correct the geometry (they can open them up and add magnets in extreme cases)...

Whether its worth it or not is the question...

Plasma TVs are very good right now. SED looked awesome, but i have no idea what the status of that is... i had thought there would be sets on the market by now. OLED is way too expensive and way too small right now, and it'll be a while before big sets are affordable.

The CRT HDTV's are VERY rare these days at pawn shops even! and when I see them at Pawn shops locally they go for $500-$700+

If you really want one... try a BX or PX on a military base. I know Lackland had some Sony when I was there, and the one at Andrews has a Samsung the last time I was there. Yes these are CRT HDTV's, and I've seen them.

The smell of scorched oil hangs in the air as a premonition of danger, while the engine gloriously shouts its war cry...

Throughout history, suspicion has always bred conflict. The real conflict, though, resides in people's hearts. This conflict has just begun.
