If no one likes the idea of pay or "members only" stuff, then just shift the concept a little. Make an account on Rapidshare or Megaupload, site staff can send all the submitted and accepted manuals and box art scans to that site, and then update a section for each with a small thumbnail that leads to the download page on Rapidshare/Megaupload/whatever. The only drain on this site would be hosting the small thumbnails, and the time donated. Make a nice, clear "standards" explanation for anyone willing to donate (dpi requirements, clean up requirements like possibly editing out the middle seem if possible, etc.), and perhaps even a viewable example of what's expected for manual and covers scans. It would take some time, but it would be worth it IMHO.

I've done a lot of scanning and PDF work for people. If this thing actually happens at some point, I'd be happy to help with submissions, organizational assistance, etc. I really do think this could be a fantastic service to offer any and all Sega fans, and hope it comes to pass.

    Those aren't hi-res scans though. They're low-res.

This is true, but good luck getting those manual scans and cover scans to print up looking nice. The project here would be better served if the goal for scanning things was so that people could replace covers that were damaged or never included. Manuals would be a bit tougher to do for printing purposes (more time and file space needed, not to mention getting it double-side printed), but covers could certainly be done.

Ha! No, of course not. I just use the database quite a bit. Plus, in case you didn't notice, they haven't updated since November 11th, 2002!

I would love to contribute a load of PAL Megadrive covers if this project ever becomes a reality

A complete collection of Genesis cover scans would be amazing. I'm having a really hard time finding these for a database that I'm helping to maintain.

Not sure, but would covers in good shape be hard to find? They are here, the ones I come across are damaged in some way almost always.
Most can be touched up fairly easily. I downloaded US Phantasy Star IV cover which isnt in great shape. Its got a torn edge and bad crease marks and I was able to get rid of it using Google Picasa. I printed it out and it came out pretty damn good.....

As far as concerns about unethical sellers, there is really nothing we can do about it. If they want to do it, they will find a way. That shouldnt stop us from doing something like this.

I want to print out box art for the games that come in those horrid cardboard boxes. I think I am going to bite the bullet and purchase the 100 cases from mediashelving. I'll probably be selling quite a bit of them if anyone is interested. At face value of course.

Though nice, the negative effects of it weighs over I suppose.

I have a few pal games with water damaged box art which i would love to replace.
I did start replacing the games but i have had to stop due to the expense. Therefore i see nothing wrong with providing scans of box art.I hope to one day collect the ones i need and take a memerory card to a decent printers and reserect my boxs of old.

I'm in favor of a manual and instruction booklet archival (all three platforms perhaps?). It seems all the mainstream game sites (example: NintendoAge) does it, so why not Sega-16 as well? It might help further define this place as the definitive Genesis, Sega CD and 32X site.

I'm not a huge fan of digging up an old thread, though, some users looking for scans might not be checking the Insert Coin forum where I posted this:

Sega CD, Sega CD 32X, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast Instruction Manual Scans
