Midknight is my favorite character followed by Larcen. Back in the day, most of my friends preferred Shadow, Tritan, and Xavier. Midknight's specials aren't the greatest but he is a awesome at the martial arts.

I remember reading back in the day that this game (and Ecco) were developed with some kind of special chip that adjusted difficulty. Of course this is not correct, and it's probably a case of language barrier issues (I read it in an spanish -Argentinian- magazine that was a translation of a portuguese -Brazilian- mag, that was probably reporting something in english or japanses at the time). Most likely, the difficuly adjustment is a reference to the "lose a match and go back an opponent" mechanic.

I never got close to mastering EC or Weaponlord, but I think those two are the best from the "let's cash in from the SF2/MK craze", and sadly are not mentioned as often as Brutal, Clay Fighter or Primal Rage when remembering such games from that era (even Cosmic Carnage or Rise of the Robots gets more fame)

Weaponlord was a legitimately good fighting games though. It was playabke then, and now. EC is rough around the edges. The SCD version was a significant update, but I'd love to explore the competitive ceiling for EC on the Megadrive.

It's tough, I don't really think there's a way to do legitimate combos, in the traditional sense. It's hard to test, I need another person interested in playing old fighting games. 😋

I noticed that, no matter how tight my links are, the opponent seems to be able to block after the first hit of any "combo". Even multi-hitting moves are blockable after the first hit, but multi-hitting specials hit for all their hits. I will investigate further. Hopefully, with the release of the Genesis Collection stuff on current consoles, I'll be able to talk some pals into playing a few rounds with me.

I think we used to do combos playing versus mode but that was a long time ago. Unfortunately, the AI cheats a little so it may be that you can't do them against the computer. Of course, if it didn't cheat, it would be too easy. I generally don't have too much trouble except for the Eternal Champion.
