I was under the assumption the law I previously mentioned, HB 194, was both the voter suppression and ID law (it's been at least half a year since I last hear about it), but according to this, they are both separate. However, OH HB 194 has the actual voter suppression, so it's still very much what I'm voting against.

Personally, I don't really mind the ID part that much. It isn't that hard to obtain an ID, and the precinct I vote at already requires one. However, when they make birth certificates mandatory, eliminate same day voting, online registration, make it harder to find out where to vote, and arrest teachers for helping get their students registered, I think it's apparent that they're trying to deter would-be voters, mainly younger, first-time voters.

And how does your proposal address the only person buying a firearm will be the same person who registered? A signature? Surely as an evolved society we can do better.

If someone feels producing an identification in order to exercise a right is wrong or hinders the exhibition of said right, then it should go for all rights. No picking and choosing.

The very same people (Lefties) crying foul over identification in order to vote should also be up in arms that a permit has to be issued for those wanting a CCW or producing identification when purchasing a firearm. We know they are hypocritical on the issues though.

I don't understand what's wrong, exactly, with simply requiring people to bring their voter registration card. Nobody has ever actually given me a reason as to why a photo ID is necessary. It's no less secure than absentee voting, which has not been banned by any of these laws.

The 1st Amendment also mentions nothing about the Internet either, so I guess freedom of speech doesn't apply online. Boy, am I in trouble. As for the VID, if it cuts down on voter fraud it's fine with me. People will just figure out new ways around it, though.

Someone in the May Day thread brought up Occupy Wall Street. Hell, I wish I could afford to do that. I've got bills to pay. We won't get rid of those money-grubbing crooks unless we change the system, and then we'll become the new crooks. With my circumstances, I have no choice but to be a reasonably honest person, and it's better that way. If I had enough money to be a monster, I'd probably give into that temptation. Same with everyone else.

Can you please show me a link about high voting fraud. I haven't heard any fact's whatsoever about that.

I get it now. You want to pick and choose which rights are suitable to "disenfranchise" people. In other words, as long as you agree with it, it's OK? My belief stems from common sense. You either want people to produce identification or you don't. If something important/serious as a CCW or purchasing a firearm requires i.d. then I expect the same from something equally as serious as voting. Do the lefties cry foul (like they do with voter i.d.) in regards to certain states that either do not offer a CCW or consider themselves a MAY issue state? My guess is no. Talk about a lack of consistency.

Registering with a valid address and s.s. # ? That's your solution? Identity fraud is rampant these days. They make identification cards that can be swiped in order to determine validity. Nothing is sure proof but it's better then either a signature or an easily defeated voter registration card.

How is a registration card easily defeated? It would be a unique card per voter per election. ID's can be faked. A one-time-use card would be more difficult.

No one can go in and vote for me. My name on the voter rolls is marked permanent absentee. The ballot I receive in the mail has a unique identification number. Nobody's going to be able to come up with that. There's always the possibility of someone stealing it out of my mailbox, of course, but if I don't receive my ballot on time, I call my county elections office.

In PA, a 93-year-old woman whose purse was stolen has been denied a replacement ID. Why shouldn't she be allowed to vote?
