Ok, according to USPS my Knuckles Chaotix is in my mailbox, and in my hands is my 32x (del'd to work) ... I love the feeling of getting new sega stuff...

Later this week I should get MK2 so I can do my review... this is gonna be an awesome weekend.

Good for you! Enjoy the Sega goodness, and congrats on taking the dive into the 32x mini-world.

    How much did it cost?

Wow, Knuckles Chatoix, and MK2 make it a very promising system. I'm pretty impressed with it... Idiots at sega had to F*** it up... <sigh>

Exactly what did happen to the 32X? Could we have a feature on this?
It may no longer be the `90s, but there is still time for Klax.

What happened was SegaUSA developed 32x, as the next gen system. Meanwhile, under the table SegaJP was developing the saturn. Essentially SegaJP castrated SegaUSA, and discontinued the 32x when the saturn came out a few months later.

It really should never have been made, IMO.

Well like every new system, the first run of games doesn't take full advantage of the system, given another year or two of full attention, they woulda made that little thing sing...

Exactly. First-gen games are always either rushed and miscoded, overhyped, or plain rubbish. The 32X was killed off before the 'second wave' of games could be produced, fully taking advantage of the system's powers.

And believe me, it WAS powerful; there's a demotape floating around the Internet (can be found here (req. DIVX, 31.9 megabytes, zipped) that showcases the potential of the 32X. It's a flypast of numerous terrains produced in lovely detail - almost Saturn/N64 standard.

thats pretty nice... Looks as good as first gen psone, games... add ultra-fast cartridge loading, and about 2 years before n64, not bad at all =)

Instead, segaJP decided they wanted to push a $400 system, and abandon existing clients.. no wonder they bombed.

It wasn't just Sega of Japan though. The dev kits for both Saturn and 32x were made available to developers at the same time. Which would you have gone for?

it would have helped if Tom Kalanzkie was still able to do his job rather than need approval from Nakiyama

I was excited about the 32x when it first came out and I would of purchased it if it weren't for the crappy games except those rare good ones. Sega sure messed up.
