    Default Midnight Resistance

Data East's arcade hit arrives on the Genesis with guns blazing! Lots of action and big bosses make this game one all run-'n-gun fans should check out. Read our full review for more information.

The games are certainly similar, but I think you are really stretching it to say that MR actually copied Contra. First off, while incredibly fun to play, Contra isn't exactly the most original premise. Military commandos fight terrorist organization/alien entity (depending on if you had the Japanese or American versions) to save the Earth. How can you make a commando style video game and not copy Contra?

What difference does it make anyway? It's a fun game to play! Remember when that was the only thing that mattered?

Besides Contra clearly ripped off Rambo First Blood in style and substance, from the wife beater shirt, oversized weapons, and a bandana around his head.

Too bad there's no way to make the game control like Contra - I hate the toggleable auto-fire.

Fun game that is missing the campy voice clips from it's arcade big brother. Neat little run and gun from Data East.

Just played thisngamenfor the first time, this review is harsh... its soundtrack is really good, the first stage is now one of my favorite genesis tune! I played it for 30 min, i really like the gameplay, graphics and music, iíll have to play it more but so far its a solid 8.5/10

Yeah, personally I love the game, we used to play the arcade version at the movie store so when the MD version dropped I was stoked. It loses the 2P co op but the graphics are a good representation of the original and Hitoshi Sakimoto's arrangement of the soundtrack is amazing, blowing away the arcade.

Few will probably agree, but for me it achieves classic status among the MD library.
