    Default Atari Jaguar

If one were to JUST own Cannon Fodder, Raiden, Tempest 2000, Sensible Soccer, Rayman, Alien vs. Predator, Wolfenstein 3D it really wouldn't be a horrid investment would it?

I can't afford to buy anything, but DAMN am I desperate to play Cannon Fodder.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to get the Genesis/Mega Drive version than to go all-out with a Jaguar?

    . . . or you can just take TheEdge's & 17days's advice.

I kid, I kid. We won't start that here.

Wolf3D is actually a bit of a sloppy port. IIRC it was basicly a redone version of the SNES port with some of the voices changed, uncensored, and with higher resolution sprites. The sprite are still one sided though. (I think even the 3DO's are) Supposedly it was done in a very short period of time to test the Jaguar's capabilities in preparation for id's Jaguar port of Doom.

Cannon Fodder got a poor review on the Jag. I have a magazine from the month it came out.

I think they came up with a really poor control scheme instead of the original mouse system.

Cannon Fodder did come out on the PC, so it's not like you'd buy a Jag just to play it. And wasn't it on the Amiga originally? Surely that's a much better buy.

I thought it only came out on the Mega Drive in Europe...will the british version work on a Genesis?

    I bet TmEE knows.

As for Rayman, don't you still have a PS2?

Beats me, I've only played a demo of the PC version. It was a cover disk on PC Zone magazine.

And it came out on much more than the Mega Drive here: it was definitely on the PC, and like most British software, the Amiga version was first.
    Erm... stuff?

Having been a loyal Jag fan and collector for a great many years, I have to admin that AvP is pretty much the only thing woth owning it for, and that's far from the greatest game of all time.

Tempest 2000 has a FAR superior version on the Saturn, and that's a totally unbiased oppinion.

Cannon Fodder and Wolf3D are piss-poor on the Jag

Naaa, I haven't seen a Dreamcast Jaguar emulator yet so you either gotta have to buy the original console with cart or the one made for the Genesis.

    Sorry, Tanegashima

I searched and I guess I asked this question before...lol...it will work on a Genesis...now I need to buy it.

I will fork out the $5 or so it will take to get it.

Really? I had read that the Jaguar version was better than the PS1 and Saturn versions even when it came to the music. I can't remember where I read it, if it was in a mag or what. Were the people who wrote that on crack?

I didn't like the remixed PS1/PC versions of the Tempest 2000 soundtrack, if that's what the Saturn has. I just liked the original mod files. But I tend to prefer low-tech/original version when it comes to things like this.

Jaguar's worth it for Temp2000 and AvP. Cannon Fodder's fun. Probably just as good on the MD, like the others said.

Of course it's ANNOYING having a system just for a few games, so when I say it's "worth it" I hesitate because it's true you can play a pretty decent version of Tempest 2000 on the PS1 (by entering a code -- I like it better than Tempest X vers.). Plus some people find AvP overrated in comparison to similar games like Doom 3 (I would think. AVp has like 10 frames per second scrolling).

Actually, i shouldn't say that. AvP is a great game. That's what I remember. I'll stick to that. I liked Doom 3, unlike a lot of people, but that's beside the point: AvP rocks. Worth getting the system just for that, if only with the idea in mind to sell it back later. (not that hard if you keep the box).

Damn, this reminds me that my biggest disappointment about the Jag was that "Legions of the Undead" never came out!

Bit of a chunky review but worth a read, 2 player T2k is freakin awesome.

Amiga's never achieved much popularity in the US so it's unlikely that Cannon Fodder or an actual Amiga to play it on for that matter are particularly widespread and cheap there.

Would the Jag be worth owning for 10 good games? aside from the 6-7 good ones listed, there's also Powerdrive Rally, Zool 2, Battlemorph and a few others. The Jag's a good console if you give it a chance.
