Default How to be hardcore according to IGN and other such things.

Well since, Mr. Mathews has been doing this I thought that I'd give it a shot.

There was one top ten list where IGN said all the things that you had to think/do if you were to be considered hardcore (but IGN was implying in this case that hardcore meant jackass).

http://retro.ign.com/articles/950/950939p1.html And I'd like right now to be a total nerd and rant on one of the things they said was required to be "Hardcore" that being thinking that Final Fantasy VII is overrated.

Having just played the game recently, I'd have to say it's a very good RPG, but the fact is that it's overrated. (Keep in mind I'm only on the first disc)

To start out the only thing good about the graphics, which to this day are praised as "completly ground breaking for their time" were the prerendered backgrounds, everything being rendered in real time looks like crap. The overworld model of Cloud looks like he has toothpick arms with huge beefy muscles, which for 1997 is terrible.

The story is pretty good, but really nothing better than the last game. But that's not to say that the story is bad, there are some pretty cool characters, like Red XIII and Barret, and some interesting parts in the story like Sephiroth's decent into madness while reading in the underground library, the revealing of jenova, and when Cloud and the gang go to Barret's hometown and learn why it was completely destroyed.
But the fact that some fans of this game go as far as to say that this game is the pinnacle of video game story telling only proves that they haven't played: Snatcher, Mother 3, Xenogears, any Metal Gear Solid game, and Bioshock (I wasn't a big fan of it's gameplay, but I loved the story).

Also on a slightly irrelevant note, I found this on Screwattack one day, I'm not a huge screwattack fan, but I check there every once in a while and find something good.

It's a blog entry describing how IGN Xbox has been bashing the upcoming Bioshock 2 before it's release and praising Halo 3 saying it's superior to Bioshock in every single way including the story, which according to IGN Xbox was completely non-existent in Bioshock.
The following link contains strong language, most of you don't give a crap but I'm just sayin'

What do you guys make of that? Also, sorry if everything looks like I pushed return too much, I'm fairly tired right now and probably shouldn't be using the computer.

I'm wondering why people suddenly give two shits about IGN.

IGN hasn't been worth visiting since they started charging for content.

If that's hardcore that you can count me out. Same with the whole otaku thing. No thanks! These days I pretend not to be able to find Japan on a map so I don't get associated with such jackassery. And I call him Super Mayor-E-O on purpose.

Like I need to improve my cred with people who sit around playing WoW so much they would go to your house to grill you on video game trivia.

Where do you go for your video game news, then? IGN typically offers news, previews, and reviews before most other pubs.

Some (read: me) might argue that they've never been worth visiting

I know this was directed at Rusty, bought I thought I'd give my two cents: I primarily care about retro games, personally, so I don't need a news site to keep me updated on what I need to play; I just come here. In the rare instance that there is anything new that interests me, I will usually hear about it on a forum, or through my friends who game. And in that rare event, I never buy NEW releases anyway, I always wait at least a few months 'til the price drops a bit.

Video game news? I frequent video game forums, the news filters down to them.

I've managed quite well without needing IGN.

But then you'd still be getting your news from IGN, it's just "filtered down".

Since I no longer have a system that is "current" any news about upcoming games would be nothing but a passing interest, not not worth *PAYING* to hear about 12 hours before the rest of the internet does.

Why do I need IGN to tell me about "retro games" if I could go here or to DP and get more honest answers?

Don't most people who play Wow only really give a damn about Wow anyways?

Uhm, call me n00b if you want to, but I've never visited IGN, Gamespot or anything like that with exceptions of Gametrailers.

I've appreciated movies more than any party I've ever been to, any time I've masturbated, any music I've ever listened to, any girl I've ever loved, any game I've ever played, any food I've ever eaten, any tv-series I've ever seen, any trip I've ever done and any life I've ever lived.

Gamestop used to be good, IMO they used to be the best review site mainly because they did say things that not a lot of other websites would say. But sadly Jeff Gerstmann god fired, and now their just like any other site that caters to PR.

I've found some of IGN's work good. For instance, they did an early preview of The Dark Spire, a game that looks interesting.

I'm so hardcore I never visit IGN.

Buy stuff at the Magical Game Factory, WaterMelon's crowd funding video game development site!

Do YOU have any games you want to get rid of that haven't been reviewed on the site and needs to be beaten for the sake of this project? Send 'em to me and I'll review and beat them! I'll pay for shipping of course. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

I hate the terms "Hardcore" and "Professional Gamer"

Hell, I found it hard enough to be called a "Gamer" by the masses when that stupid phrase was coined.

Games are toys, there's nothing professional in playing with toys. It's that perception that makes me blindly hate most people born in the 1990's and write them off as know-nothing-dipshit's. (Yes, I'm ignorant. I can live with it.)

To me Hardcore is a music genre that died 25 years ago, not the high-five-praising intensity of which "Little Johnny Fucktard" can sit on his ass for 14 hours a day screaming profanity into a headset over XBL.
