And here's another tip; if you see that you're about to get hit and can't avoid it, pause and flick to your 'A' weapon, then un-pause so you lose that(often it'll be your default machine-gun, which you can't lose) and not any of your other valuable weapons.

Yeah, that is pretty good advice!

Definitely one of my favorites for the good ol' genny. I'd take Hard Corps over Gunstar Heroes any day!

This and Castlevania Bloodlines look like NES games although don't get knocked graphically like Growl and The Punisher recently have.

This is definitely the best run 'n gun on the Genny, if not the best period. Konami put an uncharacteristic amount of extra effort (for one of their genesis games) in this one. I thought it was impossible at first, but I stuck with it and in less than a week I beat it using only one continue and that wasn't until I fought the last boss.

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.

What? Contra especially has certain parts that do things graphically that Gunstar Heroes doesn't even do. It's got some of the most advanced graphics on the system.

Castlevania arguably plays like its NES counterparts but it certainly doesn't look like them. That level with the rising water instantly comes to mind.

I really have to give this one a good sit-down. I felt the same way about the difficulty in Sol-Deace, and ended-up beating it. I guess I should give it another try then. It really is a gorgeous title.

my ONLY complaint with this game is that after you've memorized everything, it's way too easy because nothing ever changes. the uphill battle of memorizing the levels is the most enjoyable part. but overall this is a legendary game

I figure most games of the era are like this, but few games require the absolute memorization that Contra demands, thus once you finally beat it you already know the game REALLY well and it almost sucks the challenge out of it. Hard Corps does offer added replay value in the form of alternative routes, bosses, and radically diverse playable characters.

I have to say that Contra Hard Corp is the absolute best game to play while smoking herb.

I prefer to use a Game Genie invincibility code. That was the only way possible for me to see all of the alternate endings, as the game really kicks my ass every single time I try to play it.
I don't play old stuff for nostalgia, I play old stuff because the games are better.
