Default do my eyes deceive me?

is this what I think it is? an officially licensed USB Saturn AKA Genesis 6-button controller? Has anyone bought one of these? I'm very interested, but I would prefer to know it was quality first. Then again, the Retro USB adapter is almost the same price .

From what I've heard these things are pretty good. Haven't tried one myself though. I like the color scheme on that one too, haven't seen that before.

I have one and it works well with my computer and PS3 (for games like Street Fighter 4). However it is not officially licensed. They just put the Sega name on there. The build is nowhere near as good but it is still better than 99.9% of USB game pads out there. It is a fantastic knock off!

Is that sort of like the "new" SNES controllers with the 4 ft. cords? They look identical, use a SNES controller box with minor differences and actually have the Nintendo Seal of Approval.

how does it work with SF IV? Does the PS3 let you map out the buttons on USB controllers?

So, given the choice, would you get the USB Saturn pad or the RetroUSB adapter and a real Genesis 6-button? Also, do Saturn pads have the 9-pin connectors? I think a Saturn controller might be better since it has the shoulder buttons so I could use it with SNES games.

The saturn seems to use a proprietary 9-pin connections cor the controllers, incompatible with the older DE-9 connectors of the Genesis. (Atari 2600/7800, 8-bit, C64, etc.)

there's no other difference than the connector... you can use Saturn pads on MD and the other way if you wire an adaptor and have software that can utilize things...
both MD and Saturn have general purpose bidirectional 7bit parallel ports as their controller ports.

Not wholly on topic, but I remember reading that there was a 9-button Mega Drive controller released as one point. Is this correct or is my brain starting to fail?

    1st post....

these USB controllers are great, work perfectly on my PC thru Kega. they feel just like the real thing altho maybe a little lighter and with a slightly thicker/heavier cord. their "action" is identicle to the Genesis controllers... slop and lag included (i mean that in a good way)

This is pretty crazy. New Saturn controller in the year 2009. Sega FTW!

I have one of these. It's pretty good. It doesn't feel as good as the original Saturn pad though.

    Adaptor.

Why get a knock off when you can use legit, comfortable, reliable controls?

    but the shoulder buttons...

That's the real mind boggling part, do I really need/want the shoulder buttons? I couldn't play PSX or Saturn games with the Genesis adapter, but I could with the Saturn knockoff pad. Also, I want to hear the opinion from someone that owns one, not someone just bashing it because its "not official." Plus, do those RetroUSB adapters cause any lag? It turns out he adapter will be about $8 more, making the USB controller a little more than 2/3 the price of the adapter. If the controller is more responsive and less expensive, that's what I'll get.

in a related story, one of the listings featured the gayest gif I have ever seen:

The USB Saturn pad is just fine as a PC controller. Street Fighter 4 lets you remap the buttons, not the PS3 directly. It won't work with PS3 games that don't allow USB controls like SF4. I don't think you can use something like this on the 360 version.
