Puyo Sega Ages: Mickey & Donald Games

Few cartoon pairs are more famous than Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. The duo has conquered cinema, television, comic books, and even video games. That last category is especially interesting, considering the wealth of exposure the two received at the hands of Sega. Spanning the Genesis, Master System, and Game Gear; Mickey and Donald starred in over a dozen games, most of which were highly playable and truly entertaining. We've compiled a short list of some of their exploits for the first installment of our Sega Ages feature, which takes a look at first party Genesis games based on certain brands. Read the full article and see if you've missed out on any of these (mostly) amazing games.

Good article. Castle of Illusion is one of my all-time favorites.

Thanks for this article Baloo. I posted a topic on Digital Press about these very games a few days ago. Little did I know you had been working on this write up. Great minds think a like I guess. :-D

A wonderful read and wonderful series of games.

Great games, QuackShot and World of Illusion are still two of my favorite Mega Drive games. Also, Land Of Illusion is very close to being my favorite Master System game. Legend Of Illusion was okay, but in my opinion the weakest of the Mickey Master System games. I liked Donald's Lucky Dime Caper as well, but it's pretty damn hard in my opinion...

I agree that Land of Illusion is the best Master System game in the series. Legend of Illusion is a good GG game though.

Not sure how Fantasia fits in there as it is not a game developed by Sega [of Japan] as part of the series, but a contractual work by Infrogrames for Sega of America.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

I agree, it feels out of place in that article.

I'm surprised that the stages play in World of Illusion depending on which character you choose (Mickey, Donald or both). That makes the game worth beating 3 times.

I take a huge issue with this comment:
While [Fantasia] looks better and sounds better than the other Disney games, the gameplay is sub-par
Have you played Fantasia? It looks worse and sounds FAR WORSE than the other Disney games, by leaps and bounds. It is gawdawful in the AV department.

Mozart did the music for Fantasia, it must be better!

I'd like to see this Japanese Mickey Mania/Quackshot compilation... I've only seen this, and it's European:

The Japanese Mickey Mania/Quackshot compliation is on Sega-CD.

And I actually did post on Digitpress in your topic that this article was going to go up soon.

Also, it's just slightly better than Fantasia.
