heart Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament

Genesis racing fans know that the Micro Machines series can always be relied on for quality. This shines through quite brightly in Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament, which featured excellent multi-player action through its J-cart functions. It was eventually eclipsed by a sequel a year later, but that takes nothing away from this excellent game. Read our full review and start looking for extra controllers.

I got this game on eBay, then shortly after I got the '96 edition. At that point, I realized I shouldn't really have gotten MM2 in the first place, since '96 makes it pretty much obsolete. Oh well, at least my copy of MM2 is complete with even the original registration cards and it's in outstanding condition, so it has some collector's value.

    Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament

    4-player racing at its finest.

    .................................................. ..................

Should that not be "8" player racing at its finest ?!

This is the only MM game that I own. My copy is sadly lacking the J-cart design however.

There are copies of MM2 that don't have the J-Cart thing. I've seen them floating around on eBay every once in a while. Maybe they're early copies that predate the J-Cart technology, or maybe Codemasters produced a cheaper alternative version or something, I'm not sure.

Yeah I think it must have been an early release. The cover is exactly the same graphic except it is missing the little part in the corner that says J-cart.

There's a handful of tracks that I'm fairly certain they didn't put in the '96 version - music level (where you drive over musical instruments), a weird pinball level, and best of all, a track where you drive around the seat of a toilet. Surely these wonderful extras are worth the shelf space, and the pennies it usually goes for?

Great series of games, especially in the multiplayer mode. The J-Cart was a great idea.

One of the greatest racing games ever made especially with three other people thanks to the J-Cart design. The original Micro Machines was superb and it's just incredible that Codemasters managed to top that with the sequel. Both alone and with friends I've spent so many hours on this game over the years it's scary!
