    Default Earthworm Jim 2

Man, this game sucks in comparison to the first one. What were they thinking? I played the original BITD, and while I wasn't a huge fan of the game - I had fun with it and it was humorous. I saw a play through from cubex55 on youtube for the sequel (Genesis version). What a major let down. Talk about tedious. And the humor is still/old hat/re-used/played out. And the pic in between the stages of the talking cows... that's supposed to be funny? What a major let down. I sooo glad I didn't get to play it BITD.

I feel the exact opposite personally, the 2nd game has so much more variety than the first and the nonsequiter humor is awsome. I dislike the Genesis compared to SNES version for lack of weapon switching mostly. (there are other details like the accordion in the intro and the easter Egg with the cows plus a couple other minor details, plus the higher color -less dithering, and proper transparency, albeit at lower horizontal resolution) Music is awsome in both, I think samples are a bit better on SNES though. (soe of the later versions like Satuen added more voice samples though)

Maybe part of it is grwoing up with the EWJ cartoon and being quite fond of it (always associated it with The Tick, though that was on Fox and EWJ was WB). I think they based EWJ 2 partially on that show too, it did come out a while after the Show and included a number of characters and other elements from the show that weren't present int he original game.

And I definitely like the sound effects and voices a lot better in EWJ 2, especially Jim's voice. (which does resemble the one from the cartoon)

As I recall Chilly Willy much prefers the sequel as well.

I don't like EWJ1 as much as I do EWJ2, the first game gets tedious to me at some point and I start to lose interest in it. I have both, complete, PAL, wohoo

I like the 2nd so much better. The first one was tedious, if anything. Snot a problem = life vacuum.

I prefer the sequel as well, but I wish it had more traditional platforming. Bits like the salamander level quiz show were quite fun though. It was probably the first time I realised the limitations of 16-bit hardware though. Not that 32-bit platformers revitalised the genre beyond adding more colours to the palette..

I favor EWJ2 as well, but part of that might be because it was the first game in the series that I played.

EWJ1 is mostly a straight-up platform affair, and because of that it gets tedious after a while. Some of the levels can also be frustratingly difficult to complete.

EWJ2 has much more varied gameplay, but that also means the levels are a bit hit-and-miss. Puppy Love is also repeated too often IMHO. But when you've got an awesomely ridiculous level like Jim Is Now A Blind Cave Salamander, something that gets etched into your mind for all eternity, then I'm willing to forgive the shortcomings of the weaker levels.

That's probably my biggest complaint as well, except for the weapons issue on the Genesis version.

Some versions (starting with SNES) titles that level as The Villi People rather than "Jim is now a blind cave salamander," the length of the latter makes it much more humorous though. (I wonder why they changed it)

Earthworm Jim 2 has a wonderous amount of game variety. I cannot understand all the hate for this game, especially when their is such bonkers levels as Puppy Love!

Second game is far better. Level design is much more varied. For example, you only have to play the same stage thrice in that game, except for every other stage in the predecessor...

Did you actually play EWJ2 or just watch a video? I'm with pretty much everyone else, it's the better game. They should've made the mini-game optional though, in both games.

Except for "Snot a Problem", I prefer EWJ1 to EWJ2. I like the "classic" platforming of 1 compared to the randomness of 2 - they tried WAY too hard to make 2 different. I usually play the CD SE of 1 when I feel like playing EWJ. I haven't played 2 in quite some time, but play 1 regularly.

Thats exactly the problem i have with EWJ2, Its pretty obvious that they wanted to create a stranger bigger world,
perhaps it was a marketing decision? create more weird crap and the cartoons/merchandise will follow?

(not really sure WHEN the cartoon was actually made, and too lazy to look it up)

Cartoon came before EWJ 2, which is why I commented that it seems like they based some of EWJ 2 on the cartoon. (which would make sense as EWJ 2 seems to have far more in common with the cartoon than the previous game)

Earthworm Jim 2 kind of reminds me of Battletoads. They make each level so different it doesn't even feel like the same game some of the time. Except in this case, the levels are more innovative and not ridiculously hard.
