I just started playing Castlevania Chronicles last night, and so far I'm extremely impressed. I wish I'd picked it up when it was first released at (I think) a budget price, because last I checked it can fetch a pretty penny on eBay. All the reviews were like, "it's a few steps back and it's really hard," and at the time I was foolish enough to believe that that's a bad thing.

It's 5.99 on the PSN for PSP/PS3. Great deal.

I find the game to be a needless bitch to play on any platform, the enemy sprites are hard to see against the background & create an artificial difficulty. For both play-modes.

Yeah, I'm sorry. I definitely jumped the gun on that one. When I saw him start talking about Bloodlines, I got excited and had to tell you guys, then I was left to wallow in my own disappointment.

That's too bad, Bloodlines is an awesome game that deserves a lot more of a look through.

I agree, try tried some cool things like visual trickery,alternate weapons. and even super jumping for when you need to barely escape a scrolling hazard. After bloodlines, we never saw these features used to either its full potential or at all.

2 years ago I can say I loved castlevania, still do but I have no idea where the series is aiming to go, what are they trying to achieve?

Anyways, heres to hoping AVGN takes on the worst game possible and makes tons of jokes equivalent to that pork chop and candle joke in castlevania pt.1

I was glad he recognized it, but he talked about it for all of 30 seconds. Also, it appears that he doesn't realize that Eric Lecarde is the superior character. John Morris sucks.

I really don't understand why he didn't cover Bloodlines in further detail, I was so excited to see that he was doing it as the first game in the video. Shortly after though, I was sorely disappointed that he only spent like a minute and a half on it or so. Come on man, you know it's a good game, give it the love and respect it deserves.

I've only played it in Fusion for a while, but I chose John. I don't like the idea of playing Castlevania without a whip. I'm holding off playing it anymore until I get my cartridge copy in the mail, I feel like if I play through it now that I may not wanna play it when I get it, although I probably will. I've yet to use Eric, so I cannot tell you which on is better, per se. I just would like to stick to tradition and play as the guy with the whip.

That's all well and good, but Eric is the better character. He's got an awesome high jump, he's got more directions he can attack in, and he just looks cooler. I don't know. John Morris is just a lot less fun to play as. It's still worth it to play through with both characters, as there are different paths through the levels depending on who you're playing as, but still. Lecarde > Morris

That seems to be the common consensus on the internets. I do like how Eric can high jump and that John can swing from his whip Indiana Jones style.

Yeah, it seems me and the AVGN have the exact same opinions as far as part 4 goes. Bloodlines was really good, but not quite as good as IV, and SOTN is just too damn complicated for its own good. Seriously, who thinks all of that item collecting is fun?

I just started playing SOTN the other day, haven't gotten to far in it but I can already tell that it is indeed overly-complicated.
