    Nope... considering how many people have predicted the end of the world and have FAILED.. why would i place any weight to a dead civilizations predictions...

    Dates are man made! It being the year 2009 right now has nothing to do with anything! Except for us to know when something happened. If the dates were counting down... that would be different. Then when we get to zero. (and yet I'm celebrating my 30th as a big deal, and I totally contradict myself) But whatever! Unless you had a "FLASH FORWARD" no one can predict the future! Sorry guys...

    The whole thing is silly. I can't imagine fate would be so kind as to kill us all in fell swoop. It would be slow and painful and take many years.

    Maybe though it might be a good time to buy some stock in survival equipment, canned food, and who ever makes MREs.

    It wouldn't be something as stupidly obvious as that new movie is trying to make us believe. Rather, it would be something far more subtle. Probably mankind itself spelling its own demise. Think Skynet and Judgment Day, that sort of thing.

    Well, the Solstice was used to mark the change in seasons, and the world will have one on that date. Simple.

    I highly doubt the Mayans could predict the end of the world when they couldn't even predict the Spanish.
    It's just when that certain calendar ends. They thought that the world went through cycles or something, and they start new calenders after those cycles.

    They either ran out of numbers for their calendar, or they marked it as the start of a "New Age" based on astrology. No 'world ending' bullshit. (I don't care enough to research the Mayan's system.)

    It was something like that. All I know is that they planned on making a new calender.

    I bet Nostradamus was sitting in some room chuckling as he came up with those prophecies. They are way too vague(as with most doomsday prophecies). I could say, "The great building will crumble" and that could mean anything. People just love doomsday stuff for some reason.
