Default What's your current gen system of choice?

So what's your favorite current generation system? I'm sure most of you like the dreamcast as do I but i'm just talking about the ones since dreamcast. While I generally prefer 8 and 16 bit games I find myself playing my gamecube quite a bit. I find that it has the best good game to crappy game ratio. And i'm also a fan of the nintendo titles on there along with some other stuff like ikaruga and resident evil. I'd also say it has beautiful graphics and I like the fact that the system and games are small.

I own all 3 current generation consoles and mostly play XBOX. The massive amount of fps's, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Capcom and SNKs fighters, XBOX Live, Its awesome modding potential, the mostly superior game conversions, the controller S (ok the first pad was a disaster but the controller S is fantastic). Only problem I can think of with the XBOX is the lack of Shootemups but then with the ability to run MAME it's not really such a big problem.

Gamecubes an ace little machine but after the console exclusive titles (Nintendos stuff mostly, Zelda, Metroid Prime, F zero GX, Animal Crossing and the Resident Evils) there's not really much that grabs me. Then there's the pad. Very comfortable to hold but it has the most useless d-pad of any console ever and the button layout is really strange.

PS2, has a great line up of 2d shooters but thats all I really use it for. I can't stand the pad, the d-pads horrible and the analog sticks are pretty much useless rendering most games that use them unplayable (fps's especially). I only ever use arcade sticks on my PS2.

Still play my Dreamcast more than any of the above though.

As much as I like my gamecube I completely agree with you about that d-pad. I think i've owned it three years and i've never touched that thing.

Definitely the Xbox. I own more games for it than the PS2 and GC combined, and the amount of time I've spent on Xbox Live is insane (over 200 hours in PSO alone!). I love the other two consoles, but the Xbox just has it all for me this gen.

Of course, we should also include the GBA. That little bugger has an incredible library and is perhaps my most played system after the Xbox.

Gamecube's my favorite of the three; I think it has a more interesting library. Games like Billy Hatcher, P.N. 03, Killer 7, Cubivore, and Donkey Konga bring it in. PS2 and Xbox have their share of good stuff, but the amount that's actually "interesting" (as opposed to just good) is less. I'm also a little bit of a "version whore" and several games are best on the Cube.

Xbox has Phantom Dust, which is probably my favorite Current-Gen title, but other than that and Gunvalkyrie, it lacks exclusives that I enjoy. I'll be damned if Contra, Gradius, or R-Type shows up on Gamecube or Xbox; so my vote goes to PS2, purely due it's extensive library.

My favorite would be the Xbox because of xbox live and halo 2. But I have been playing the gamecube alot with resident evil 4 and alien homind.

I'll have to vote Gamecube. Metroid Prime 1 is arguably the most fun I've had with a game this generation, and the rest of the first-party exclusives are for the most part all great.

    3. Xbox, I don't have LIVE and only have about 12 titles total. Great games, but not very many that TRULY grab me.

    2. Gamecube; A consistantly interesting library of nice titles.

    1. PS2; largest and most diverse of libraries of the current gen. Figure in the PSX compatibility and you have even more to consider.

Sure...large isn't always good. But the larger the library, the more likely you are to find good titles more frequently.

I just feel left behind these days. Back in the days of the PS1 I was still an avid gamer who kept up with the latest titles, but now it feels like it's been a long time since I've been in the loop.

I have a Gamecube, but I have almost nothing but Smash Brothers for it; I have a PS2, but I have almost nothing but DDR for it. I bought a Nintendo DS, but I've been feeling kind of burned by the slow trickle of titles for it, and Nintendo's announcement of a new Game Boy to come has me thinking that the DS is going to get a lot less support in the long run than it deserves.

Still, DS titles are the only upcoming releases that I'm even thinking of buying. It's hard to get me excited about new games anymore. I certainly don't see myself buying any of the new consoles coming out next year - the rate at which they're releasing new consoles these days is ridiculous.

So I don't know what's caused it, but I've become disillusioned with current-gen video games. I've been collecting Genesis games in an effort to recapture the pure sense of fun I felt back when that was the main system I owned. Plus, they're damn cheap.
It may no longer be the `90s, but there is still time for Klax.

I think for all its largeness, the PS2 library still isn't all that... special. The Icos and Katamari Damacies are extremely few and far between.

Well, Ico and Katamari are grand and all, but I don't exactly look for that level of uniqueness to confirm a system's greatness.

If you look at my PS2 games you'll see stuff like Devil May Cry, Star Ocean 3, Atlier Iris, Spyhunter, Suikoden III, Gradius V, Castlevania, ZOE2, ect.

The Gamecube doesn't have too much that REALLY grabs me.
Weak third party support is a part of that.

You actually like the PS2 Castlevania? Wow.

Gradius V is grand, but the other games you listed are pretty blasé IMO (and Spy Hunter is better on Xbox).

As for Gamecube having weak third party support, I'll just note that my collection of Gamecube games is at 19 and a grand total of one is developed by a Nintendo team.

    boils down to personal taste.

For multiplatform releases, I judge the PS2 as the direct middle due to the Dualshock being so awesome for Non-FPS games.
I don't see how Spyhunter is better on PS2...sure, the original is included, but can be easily played on MAME.
Somehow the PS2 has more that I wish to track down.

The release list for the Gamecube doesn't exactly have me all giddy. There are still titles I look forward to on all consoles, but the PS2 has the most releases that excite me. ZOE2 is f***ing awesome, and the GC doesn't have it.

    as for the other titles
