Ps2 Is anyone here a fan or just likes the Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku series?

Because I do. They are quite possibly some of the best games that Sega has put out in recent years. It's basically something like Shenmue but with more emphasis on fighting. And some of the side-missions are either fun or insane (especially one of the side-missions on Yakuza 2). Also, Kazuma kicks ass! And the YF6 mini-game on Yakuza 2 is awesome. So, post your opinions on the series here!

I just picked up Yakuza at F.Y.E. the other day. It was $20 and I know It was a good deal because, like with REZ, Sega shipped a really limited number of these games to the states and I'm not paying $150 for this game 5 to 10 years down the road.

I first played Yakuza on a Playstation Magazine Demo Disc back in 2006. I really liked it, and now I'm about to start the full game. I might pick up Yakuza 2 tomorrow if I come across it. There are a few stores I frequent that I've seen carry it.

I do agree that it is Sega's best series since the Dreamcast died.

Yeah, and it is a recent original property from Sega that I care about (Bayonetta? Awesome? I mean, it does look like a pretty fun game, but not one of the GREATEST GAMES AROUND! You all gave three fucks about the game just because the dude who made the DMC games -and MadWorld, one of my excuses for wanting to own a Wii- was behind it and because the main character was supposedly hot, especially Jim Sterling from Destructoid, that apparently went from fapping to Liz Hurley -hot chick, BTW- to that deformed P.O.S. I mean, do not get me wrong, I have nothing against him, but really? How much did Sega or Platinum Games paid him? Ok, enough with the ranting) alongside the Condemned series. Hopefully you will enjoy both games (Yakuza 1 & 2, that is)

I think it's funny that some people think that the protagonist from Baynetta is attractive. I find her misproportionate anatomy to be hilarious. She has boobs the size of basketballs and her head is the size of my fist. I just find her funny to look at and take seriously.

Yeah, those people could be the following:

    -The game's designers
    -Jim Sterling
-People who would fap to anything
-Everybody in that Japanese commercial for Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (the one that shows plenty of Japanese dorks making an up and down motion with the SIXAXIS/DualShock 3 just to see some giantly unrealistic boobs jiggle slowly)

    EDIT: http://www.destructoid.com/bayonetta...t-159894.phtml
Wait... dances for your erotic amusement? No no no no no no NO GOD NO PLEASE SEGA WHAT THE FUCK. I watched it. 4 minutes of my life... wasted... not even the music from Jet Grind Radio that I was listening to could help... also, I learned something: apparently Bayonetta's body is a freaking mannequin! She has no nipples, no you-know-what, no NOTHING. Now that's something to fap to! And the comments look as if they were made by horny 13-year-olds (well, the first ones. The others are from people saying that they won't be buying it). One of them is pretty much a short note to Sega saying that they should remake Space Channel 5 WITH BAYONETTA (and Varla Guns from HotD: Overkill as well). And I say NO. Ulala is hotter than Bayonetta (wait... did I just say that?)

Also, a pic that speaks the truth:

The Yakuza games are great! But it was stupid to release the first game with English only audio. Japanese gangsters that sound like Michael Madsen and Mark Hammill? No thanks. Glad they switched back to Japanese audio for Yakuza 2 and soon with 3.

Are you kidding? Mark Hamill is the fucking man.

I never really played much of Yakuza; I remember playing up to where you entered an underground fighting tournament or something, but I really didn't like how everyone in the game had Tourette's. Now I'm without a PS2 to play it on :/

Hmm, that's weird. I actually heard that the third game will have English voiceovers

Yeah, nearly every random thug that you encounter always says something like "I'm gonna fuck you up!". Is that how they really talk like in Japan? Or did Sega's translators wanted to make them sound all gangsta?

Yakuza is one of the many games I want to play on the PS2. I'll probably get it, but it will most likely sit in my pile of shame, alongside Shadow of the Colossus and FFXII.

Yeah, the overdone swearing really turned me off from the game at first.
I put it down and only decided to really play it again after people at TNL kept hyping it up. It didn't disappoint.
Though the gratuitous swearing was terribly immature and downright stupid.

AFAIK Japanese doesn't really have the same amount of swear words as English although there are a considerable number of insults, so yeah Sega were going all gangsta on us. IIRC Yakuza 2's translation is much cleaner although it is only subtitled.

So if the Japanese apparently have less swear words than English-speakers, then how did Sega do when they brought The Getaway: Black Monday (also a great game) to Japan (which, BTW, was released in the same day as my birthday!)?
