Default World Series Baseball

Fans of Take Two's Major League Baseball 2K5 may or may not remember that the series has its roots in BlueSky Software's incredible World Series Baseball franchise, which had several installments on the Genesis before reaching the pinnacle of perfection with World Series Baseball '98 on the Saturn. Well, we have a review of the game that started it all. Come on in, grab a hot dog and some peanuts, and watch the game!

Genesis

[After reading this shocking story out of Take Two's stable, I figured it would be appropriate to revive some baseball discussion:

I played the original World Series Baseball for the first time this week and found the presentation very impressive overall. I put my Tigers up against their division rival White Sox and got blasted by a two-run homer. The graphics look great, as expected, and the "Sports Talk" atmosphere is really appreciated! Those funny pictures on the scoreboard between innings are kinda clever.

I have trouble keeping interest in baseball games when I'm playing solo, so I didn't actually go all nine innings. Baseball is a slow game, so I guess the length of the games is more of a knock on the sport than Sega's programming.

I've been on a retro Sega sports game kick lately, and it helps that most can be found so cheap. One somewhat obscure gem I really enjoyed was Sega's Reggie Jackson Baseball (1987) for the Master System. Outside of the ridiculous fact that the game features green, red, and yellow/ugly brownish fields that are chosen by the computer at random, I find the cart very impressive for 8-bit (especially the music). You can really appreciate the progression of Sega's baseball line from the Master System to the Genesis to the next generations (although some might argue they took a gigantic step backwards with the Dreamcast installments).
