Cadash
Taito apparently loved the Genesis, publishing a multitude of arcade ports that were highly playable, despite being toned down (downright cut up in some cases). There were quite a few games that never made the transition to the home market, but most of the company's arcade catalogue of the time got a Genesis release. Cadash was one title that saw some questionable changes in its port (I understand only having two-player co-op, but why remove characters?) yet still remained enjoyable. Read our full review and see if this is one worth tracking down.

Cadash was an okay game. But it could have been much more, if only there was a save feature and the graphics were a bit better.

The score is appropriate, IMO. It doesn't *quite* deserve the lashings it usually gets.

It is a good game. The Turbo version is *slightly* better and I think it also has a save feature if you have the Turbo CD or TurboBooster attached. I've beaten both (via a single night rental) but own neither. I need to get them.

Looking over the review again, I stand by it. Cadash is a fun little game, but it could have been massively better.

I also agree with the average score. It was one of the first arcade boards I sought out when I got my cabinet, but in playing through the game I found my memories to be a bit better than the game itself. What I think holds the game back is the poor layout and level design of the game. Castlevania II on NES did the adventure platform schtick a year earlier on far lesser hardware, and it kills Cadash since Simon's Quest is so well structured. All Cadash has going for it is being a four-player game which severely hurts the console ports.

It seems like there are many platformers for the Genesis that feature disproportionately tall character sprites.
Just my ignorant observation. |

The home ports of Cadash are both cool games, but I couldn't bring myself to play through the arcade when I eventually found it one day after having already played the ports.

Fun fact: The Turbo version was the second game ever to be published by Working Designs. The first was also a Taito game: Parasol Stars. I wonder if the two companies had a larger deal (like for WD to publish all Taito Turbografx games) or if it's just a coincidence.

Which is probably why WD put out so many GameArts titles. |

Fun Fact #2: Both Cadash and Parasol Stars were transfered to Working Designs over a telephone line from Taito. They said it took forever (overnight). This was back before Al Gore invented the internet. They used that data and made the proper translations and such to that code and released it. So when you play the US versions of Cadash or Parasol Stars on the Turbo, you are playing teh downloded romz.
