I doubt anyone knows how to get this beta, but for tech purposes, this would be awesome to see, especially if I can start that awesome intro every time I start a game.

Thoughts?

No one has any idea who it was sold to so it's probably never going to surface again, unless the buyer decides they need to sell it again for money. Shame the seller never got around to answering me when I asked what games are on it. They had the time to test it to confirm at as working, yet they didn't even see what was on the cart? I seriously don't get what some people are thinking, it seems like common sense that you'd let people know what's on it to stir more interest :/

We'll never see it again I bet.

It seems like it was set in retail kiosks or at a couple expos, I would fight a cage full of hamsters to be able to recreate the fractured reality that is sega channel.

I wonder if we could ever get that intro from the actual cart dumped and reprogrammed to take place over the actual o.s. bios. That would be good enough for me.

Man i wish i could have experienced the Sega Channel, I read so many good stories about it,
but alas thats what ya get for being born in Europe eh.

But yeah, i would love to see this dumped so i could flash it to my flashcart,
won't be the same but I'd be happy just to see it on my real Sega.

or even better, get it decompiled and then create an actual source code out of it,
which we could then use as a frontend for flashcarts.

...Or poor, in my case. I didn't even have the money to rent games; had to stick with Sonic 2, MK2 and Sonic Spinball alone for a long, long time before acquiring my fourth title (by which time the Genesis was already being taken off the shelves).

I saw the second part of that video, and that Vectorman contest seemed interesting. I only have the first game, so I wonder how the morph that the winner submitted looks like in the second game.

I saw the video when it first came out on TV and on youtube, and I don't remember it much. It seemed like it was way ahead of its time, and was something I could never get or figure out when I was 7.

Aw man, that sucks! Here I was thinking how I would never get to try the SEGA Channel and if I was paying attention in July I could have done just that.

The ending bid was $410 which all things considered isn't that outrageous. Which is a shame, I definitely would have loved to hold it for ransom ERRR share it to the gaming community!

I approve of the frontend idea, would look great if it was used through neogenesis.

Maybe then steve snake would enable support for the rom image. while the intro and error screens are intact on the rom, the menus are downloaded from the now defunct server although could be faithfully recreated with a good coder and some inspiration.

Here is a bit of technical discussion I found on the almighty google.
http://forums.darkmystics.com/showthread.php?t=1625

EDIT: proof that the intro WILL boot up on real hardware before reaching the error screen.

Some food for thought.

Damn how did he do that, i want to try that with this Sega Channel cart that i got from a friend of mine.

its this bigass blue Sega Channel cart, thing is huge.

Last time i tried booting it i got this error, maybe there's a game genie code to get past it?
or an action replay code or something.

hmm gonna have to find that adapter again so i can supply it with power and try to get past that error screen.

Just read the thread that moonmaster1 posted, why is it that so few people are actually interested in seeing this stuff in action?
all i keep reading is "lol use an emoelator dude!" or "I only care about the game itself"

its part of history man! this stuff is classic and fun!

I've had one of the big blue Sega Channel adaptors for some time - was hoping when I bought it there might be games saved to it & accessible somehow, but no. Don't think mine even went to an error screen. The intro screen and music are nice though

Hmmm... I sense a pattern here . Its seems while the big adaptor boots up like it did in the video, the blue adaptor boots straight to the error screen via a slightly different into where sega pat sit on top of the sega logo. *see first post to understand my logic*

Knowing only one dump of the rom exists, perhaps only the blue cart rom was dumped and naturally it was assumed that all sega channel builds only booted to the error screen. I guess someone needs to dump the Grey bulky cart.

Thats my two cents anyways.

I doubt it, you don't buy high profile items to bury it in a hole and never talk about it. Genesis games aren't exactly the kind of thing people buy for profit, you have to be a fan at heart to want to be in the market at all. It'll probably get the ROM dumped sooner or later. What I would really like to know is if it has the US ROM of Mega Man: The Wily Wars. AFAIK, that game must be lost, it didn't even make its way into the Mega Man Anniversary Collection (though that could've been laziness more than anything else).

Wow that Sega Channel music is incredible! It really takes advantage of the full power of the Genesis. Well, as much power as the weak US programmers could muster, anyway.

Okay, I just tried to start a topic at hidden palace under a guest account. Its seems like I'm an idiot or they don't want me over there.

Anyways if anyone could post this over at hidden palace with all the html code intact I would greatly Appreciate it.

Maybe we can find someone who has this cart and get it out in the open, a custom sega channel bios before I start a game of SOR would be the greatest thing since the model 1 without the tmss.

EDIT: I typed in "sega channel rom discussion" on google and this page was the 3rd result listed. The lack of interest in this adapter sure is baffling.
