Dinosaurs always make things better, don’t they? What can be better than giant lizards smashing stuff? Well, pair them with fast cars, and you have the makings of the comic book classic Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. Capcom gave it the arcade treatment, and Rocket Science Games brought a FMV perspective to the series on the Sega CD. Wait! Come back! It’s not as bad as it sounds! Aside from being repetitive, the game’s not that bad, and the FMV gameplay is actually not at fault.
If you love the Power Rangers, then you’ve undoubtedly tried out their Sega CD game. Fans of campy Japanese fighting shows should also give Masked Rider: Kame Rider ZO a try, if only for the voice work. There’s some serious FMV action going on here, though it might not hold your interest for long. Even so, it’s worth a whirl in the ol’ CD if you can find a copy cheap.
The FMV deluge continues! The 32X version of Sega’s Fahrenheit came bundled with the regular Sega CD game. The difference? Better video quality! Unfortunately, it’s the same game otherwise. Full-motion video games are love ’em or leave ’em, and most left a long time ago. There are some out there who actually enjoy them all, and those who have an open mind are sure to find a few that they might *gasp* like! Psygnosis’ Microcosm is one title that tends to split people right down the middle, so read our full review and see where you stand.
On-rails FMV shooters pop up every now and then, but the only difference between them is usually the quality of the video. As consoles progess in power and features, this particular genre never really seems to go anywhere. Perhaps that’s why they’re still not a lot of fun to play, even after so many years. Take Absolute Entertainment’s A/X-101 for the Sega CD, for instance. Grainy video, dull enemies, and some bland gameplay are everything you’d expect going in, and at least in this regard, the game doesn’t disappoint.
