Though many would argue that Sensible Soccer was the better series, Electronic Arts’ FIFA games helped define the sport of soccer on the Genesis, and they are still very playable today. Some were better than others though, as evidenced by marked contrasts between the ’95 and ’96 installments.
Like soccer? Sure, most of the world does. Why then, would a company so closely tied to sports such as Tecmo go and release the dud that is Tecmo World Cup? Talk about no frills – this is as bare bones as they get. I guess the company released just how lackluster an effort the game was, since they changed the name in Japan. No need to contaminate foreign consoles, I guess.
Sonic FIFA Soccer ’95
Soccer is the world’s most popular sport, and whenever one thinks of its video game renditions, one franchise stands head and shoulders above the rest in terms of public awareness. Electronic Arts’ FIFA series has been going strong for over a decade, and it made quite the name for itself on the Genesis.
