Maybe a hardcore collector here would be interested in it.

Since it's a dumped ROM already, I'd really be surprised if anyone was willing to pay more than $300 for that cart.

I'm pretty sure it's just a retail cart, re-flashed with the Crackers ROM put on there and the original game sticker removed. Could be wrong, but that doesn't not look like a proto cart.

But it looks like a monkey really wrote the title and splattered urine on the label.

The PCB in it is something devs got from Sega. I got few of such PCBs with some tools on them. Now to burn some EPROMs and sell :ok:

Cartridges of Sonic Crackers have been sold so many times, that I think people have used blank genuine proto boards and burnt new eproms with Crackers on to sell. Or perhaps worse, removed another game/possible proto to put crackers on there since its so high profile. I suppose it might just be the same couple of copies that keep getting resold over and over again. I just find it odd that such an early and unfinished prototype game would have dozens and dozens of genuine prototype carts made, not that its impossible I guess.

The last Crackers proto I saw up on Ebay was a plain PCB, just the PCB, no outer shell. Are you saying this one is legit?

It could very well be legit, but might be fake. Playgen raised some good points.

my moneys on it being a fake, with absolutely no background info as to how he came into possessing the item

Did anyone ask the seller? They don't post outside of the US, so evilbay won't seem to allow me to contact them (stupid :P)

Yeah. I just remembered something, don't the official PCBs and the ROM header label it as "Sonic Studium"? I'm sure it was only called Crackers on the title screen.

Well it ended at $650. So someone obviously thought it was real.

I can't imagine paying $650 for an already-dumped prototype that may or may not be real.

The rom header did, yes.
