I just read about this a few days, ago and thought some of you may be interested in the fact that sega is finally going to be releasing some of their model 2 arcade games from the 90s on xbla and psn at the end of 2012 and early 2013.

so far it looks like sega will be releasing sonic the fighters, virtua fighter 2, fighting vipers, virtual on, virtua strikers all with online multiplayer along with 3 extra playable characters in sonic the fighters. I know i'm looking forward to these, is anyone else going to download any of these games?

metal sonic, robotnik/ eggman and a unused character honey the cat based off of honey from fighting vipers. one of the sonic websites had some info about the extra characters.

This is impressive. I know that several of the new characters were accessible through hacking but now we will see them officially. Either way this is great, glad to see a digital service worth investing in, as Virtual Console has been rather dead for a while. I did however enjoy every single purchase I made on PSN.

We did have a thread on this I thought. Anyway, I think it's funny that they showed Saturn VF2 in the screenshots. I hope they don't get the actual games mixed up.

We've been playing adequately emulated versions of those games for a while now. I'm still trying to figure out an optimal control scheme for Oratorio Tangram. I don't play it that often to warrant a twin stick pad and an adapter.. if only there's a cheap knockoff.

It would be nice to have a VF anthology disc though.

3 extra playable characters in sonic the fighters ? That wont fix that turd of a game but Im very intrigued to play those missing characters that got cut from the original game.

Is it true that ElSemi got hired by Sega? It seems we can kiss any Model 2 improvements on PC goodbye.. For shame.

I'd prefer a big ass compilation disk but this can do.

Such a bummer, theres still a couple of glitches with the PC model 2 emulator, particularly the sound being mixed incorrectly which Elsimi said he'd fix :(

If only Sega would release this package for PC, I'd even settle for a Steam port!

I have this hunch that once SegaSammy is split and ORBI is established, that SEGA has a large library of digital HD revamps for the Steam market planned, so I'd say, that Model 2 Collection getting the PC treatment is inevitable.

I totally want Virtua Fighters 2, Fighting Vipers, and Virtual On. Now, where's Die Hard Arcade?

Isn't Virtua On already available? It is on 360, im not sure about PS3.. Also Die Hard Arcade is not a Model 2 game. Its that Saturn-ish, STV board.

Im pretty sure the virtual on for 360 is a port of virtual on: oratorio tangram for dreamcast, not the original virtual on.

The Dreamcast port of VOOT had slowdown, but the Model 3 ran smooth as butter. I wonder which code was the XBLA game based on?

Oh yeah, my bad... Its Oratorio Tangram. Not sure what version exactly but i don't think they ported the Model 3 version... When was the last time they did this for a Model 3 game anyway?

I think they ported the Dreamcast version since there's still a VMU on the character selection screen, IIRC.

I hope more saturn games get HD remakes, like Burning Rangers and the panzer dragoon trilogy.

Huh, I'll be damned. Well in that case, I guess that's all I'd want from this collection then :)

Everyone flood Sega with requests for Panzer Dragoon Saga, haha.

I think I'm going to have to buy Virtua Fighter 2 no matter what. Good thing I have enough bing points stored up that it'll be free.

I'm probably going to buy virtua fighter 2 and fighting vipers, not sure about sonic yet since I have it on gamecube in the sonic gems collection. I hope sega is still going to release virtual on for the model 2 collection.

Fighters includes Honey the Cat and Metal Sonic as playable characters, so there's that.

I only want Virtual-On personally. I'm a sucker for blowing stuff up with robots.

This makes me want to get virtual on for the Saturn again, since I don't own a 360 and I sold my first copy...

When I was really young I remember seeing it all the time in Saturn commercials and thinking it looked so awesomely cool!

Virtual On is awesome, on Saturn or Model 2. I forgot that one was coming, I will absolutely have to pick it up as well. Oratario Tangram is sort of the perfect progression, but the original is still great.

I own Marz, I wouldn't exactly say it is a great game and hesitate to even mention it. I haven't tried Force yet, I actually forgot about it.

Force is JPN only, but region-free.

Whether this means he'll actively keep updating his emulator is still uncertain.
