If it does what they say it does and actually sees release, I'll absolutely get one. The GD drive is the weakest part of the DC and the only thing that seems to be liable to fail, getting around that with 100% compatibility? Awesome. Not to mention that loading all your Games onto an SD card/HDD that attaches to the unit makes your DC + entire library super portable.

Sadly the load times still don't look ideal compared to loading off the GD-Rom. Hopefully they can improve them.

Still waiting for someone to come out with something that I can actually buy and is actually fast enough to use.

if loading times are at least similar to original gd-rom games then I would really want it. also can they replace vmu saves? as switching all the vmu's constantly is my biggest pain

Just for comparison for those only looking at the videos they posted:

Capcom vs SNK on the SD Card device:

XKwbf14oojk

Capcom vs SNK on GD-ROM:

XZBvX19fiIQ

As you can see, the load times are noticeably worse.

Well, it's a great project that is still in a development fase. Plus he said that Hdd's can be done in the future, which would be a major improvement.
Once this is finished, i'll definetely try to get one.

Oh I know it's still in development, which is why I hope they can get the load times to be faster.

The creator (cybdyn) is first going to release the Playstation PSIO board, with DC coming later on.

Well, I'm sold on a device that could eventually save the Dreamcast from GD-ROM drive extinction!

So how does the HD drive connect to the DC board (skipping gd rom) to load games/isos/cdi from HD ? Through the serial like sd card readers or ? So an external hd cable plus another sd card adapter cable in unit goes to DC , hence switch to left (down for 1tb HD, up for sd card) ? I know the "zip drive prototype" look is just for show, but I'm wondering how this will actually connect to my DC.

It'd connect through either the serial or modem ports. The Karaoke and zip drive, which sit underneath, use the modem port. What's funny is the Karaoke thing is the Dreamcast's AV (and power I think), then the karaoke plugs into the TV. It's like a 32X, except nobody complains about it.

LOL at 32 x comment, thanks for info Guntz.

Edit.

If serial, then some games will run at "80% sd card adapter in serial like game speeds" even off HD, yes ?

Going through the Serial or Modem ports would be bad, just too slow. You need to connect directly to the IDE interface the GD-Rom Drive uses or it's a waste.

Yeah that's why I was asking, I'm tired of only so many games running at 100% from sd/serial. It should be released, with instructions on putting it directly to board skipping gd-rom (since skipping gd-rom is the goal). Can you mention that to cybdyn , greg ? What does/is PSIO ?
