View Full Version : Exploring a Sega Dreamcast Disc

I want to rip Sonic Adventure 2's textures for personal reasons. The way I am doing this is to explore the game's disc. There is no program to extract the content of a Disc Juggler file (Because I am too lazy to rip the thing myself). Problem is, even once I converted the thing to ISO, UltraISO (Not to my surprise) failed to read it, giving me gibberish data. How do I extract the contents of a Sega Dreamcast disc.

Not because of sexual reasons. Just because I want to confirm something, besides there is already a rip for that

I respect that.

I have nothing more to add.

I think if you have an sd on your dc you can use Dream Explorer to view and save the files
From the gdrom to the sd.
I know you can rip gdrom games with your dc this way.
So that should give you the raw files you are looking for I suppose.
Since they shouldn't be in iso form yet.
Check out isozone.com and search there,
Dcevolution might be a good place to check for something related too.
Dcemulation hasn't had much going on in years.

Edit,

They say it does it, I don't have a sd for my dc's so I'm not positive.

I want to do it on a pc with a ripped copy of the game.

You need a GDROM drive on your pc to do that.
You do understand this right?
Its not a cd,dvd,cdr,cdrw,dvdr,dvdrw,it is a GDROM.
Maybe you can flash bios to a dvd rom drive or something.
I really don't Know if anyone has ever done that before.

This thread is very, very confusing.

Are you expecting to be able to just navigate to a texture file in Windows Explorer or something? Windows won't be able to read anything like that on a Dreamcast disc.

What you have to do is play the game in NullDC and capture the textures with a DirectX capture program. I have no idea if this will work with a particular game and have never tried it.

Here's some links:

Tried, doesn't work with SA2, I don't see any texture on the upper left side of the emulator.

Does NullDC have some debug options that will let you see what textures are being loaded in memory? Might be able to rip them that way.

Maybe, It has a PVR list, can't figure out how to use it though, I looked at the config file and there was no option to enable it in the GUI options or config file.

EDIT: The Debug window has options for a PVR list, which can maybe tell me where to find them in vram.
