Nope, all I have is a small stack of games. I'd love to gather up the good exclusives.

That would have been the cherry on the top of the Virtual Boy empire.

Can you imagine watching TV, or anything, with this look.

All we need to do is hack in a Genesis's composite video output into the TV tuner for Game Gear, then call it the Nomad 2!

That TV tuner was amazing. I've considered getting another for fun, but it wouldn't be the same since I'd be stuck watching that one shopping channel which still puts out an analog broadcast.

I still can't believe the Virtual Boy existed. It always felt like the laser light was going to damage my eyes, so uncomfortable and nerve wracking lol.

I can't wait to get a TV tuner for Game Gear someday even if I have to run input from somewhere else, like my TV. It would be sick to watch a DVD or something on Game Gear

This should work for the GG in the same way as well.

Excuse some of the slightly out of focus pics.

Not like something new. It's been known for ages.

And I just as easily could have done it with a any number of systems incl Wii, Playstation, Xbox, etc, etc.

Yes of course, the TV Tuner has an A/V input. You can connect anything that does AV. Although watching something on the Game Gear small/low resolution screen leaves something to be desired :p

Looks awesome. Yeah I wasn't saying I had a new idea or something. I always wanted a TV tuner to watch TV and then they stopped broadcasting analog, so now I want the TV tuner to run input from my actual TV. :D

Why is this image pretending it's blurry with motion blur? One of the few things the VB had going for it was that the display was razor sharp and was super low persistance.

Because nobody has actually played a Virtual Boy, therefore they wouldn't know that. The VB hate has got to be some of the worst bullshit I have ever heard over the years. I played a real, fully working Virtual Boy and I have been a huge fan ever since. I've got two solder-fixed VB units and a stack of games, great console.

The Vboy is quite alright, nothing extremely great but definitely playable.

Care to share what did you do? I have one that is currently down.

I had great luck taking a tiny bit of flux and a tiny bit of solder, and carefully dotting a little solder on the PCB where the ribbon meets the PCB on the eye board. The flux helps the solder creep under the ribbon and solder it down, improving it from the previous adhesive-based connection.

That's how I fixed mine. I don't have a lot of games for it, but especially for the time of release the VB is an excellent piece of R&D work and very impressive for what it is. I really like the audio as well.

There were a few times where I had the opportunity to pick one up. I can honestly say, though, the VB is one of the very few gaming related systems that doesn't hold any appeal at all for me.

In fact, during one such occasion, I opted to go with one of these instead.
It's utter bollocks, but somehow it seemed more interesting to me at the time.

By the way, I played VB when it was new, but not since then. It felt very uncomfortable on my eyes, but I couldn't decide if the problem was my eyes or if it was just in my head. It's possible it made me feel paranoid about my eyes just because the red light reminded me of harmful red lasers. Either way, I couldn't enjoy gaming while it resembled shining red lasers in my eyes lol.

I bought 2 new old stock (without original boxes) about 10 years ago and I haven't seen any since.

I never knew about the FM tuner as a kid, but I did have a Walkman with FM/AM, so on balance I think I came out ahead. (How weird that this thing could only process FM signals... pretty shortwaved of them if you ask me.

I DID have the TV tuner. That thing was great, especially since I often was in the car on weekends for 4 hour road trips to my grandparent's house. "Chasing the signal" from one broadcast region to the next was sure interesting. Unfortunately, my Game Gear died many years agon. I've got a new one, the 2110g revision, and it's caps still seem to work just fine, but there's some issue preventing the video from the TV tuner from displaying properly on the screen. Mind you, considering that all the TV stations have moved on to digital signals around here, I feel like the tv tuner is more or less completely useless now. They're still pretty cheap on eBay, and my antenna was broken in half years ago, but I haven't felt the need to buy a replacement just to get an antenna that won't give me tetanus. One day, I intend to get one of those replacement cap packages and go about repairing my original Game Gear. I'd love to get it working again anyway because the plastic on the older models is somehow... smoother, I dunno, it feels nice in my hands.
