View Full Version : Super-Rare Sonic The Hedgehog Game, Once Lost, Now Playable

One of the rarest Sonic games of all time is Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car, an arcade game for kids that was released in 1991. If you werenít in Japan that year (so...pretty much all of us), youíve probably never played it, as it has never been released again, ever, in any format.

Until now! An original arcade board has been obtained by a fan and dumped, meaning that with the next release of MAME pretty much anyone can play and...well, if not enjoy the game (itís very much a kidís title), then at least experience it...

Entertaining enough read, the pictures of the guy who imported it are pretty awesome though.

That shipping cost is pretty eye watering. It would've been cheaper to fly to Japan and dump the board there, though I guess the guy wanted it for his own collection. Neat story.

that would be really cool to see and play as a kid.

I can't believe he tried to crowdfund his game purchase. Of course, he didn't succeed.

It's a pretty neat cabinet and looks worth the money in the end. Maybe not to me now, but if I had the disposable cash and the room to acquire something like this, I'd have an easier time justifying it than, say, four or five copies of Eliminate Down.

For anyone not looking to give the clickbait bastards at Kotaku any advertising revenue, here's an archive link to the article.

So Sonic had obnoxious voiceovers right from the start?

I like the Arcade car but it looks like a little kids game.

I watched a few minutes of it. I'm kinda glad it never came out in the U.S.

Lol, I'm pretty sure that's what the target market is.

I can't fault the guy for trying to crowdfund some of it, and because he took the time and initiative it is finally dumped and preserved.

A unique little part of history.

Now somebody make a trackball controller for PC so I can playing SegaSonic the Hedgehog and Golden Tee.
