I have never seen that black one before. Looks like a portable CD player. I wish they fully went with the silver design.

These surfaced a few years ago. The black one is the Gigadrive, and both are wood/resin mockups.

edit: and they did want to go with the silver design, but during production the paint didn't stick to half the units, so they just let them all stay grey.

Agreed, but apparently EDGE mag was told the paint marked and scratched easily and it was dropped as a result

I mean the design is similar to the final but not the same. Forget paint. The design of this one is just sleeker. Sharper clean lines.

That really DOES look like a CD player. What is the Gigadrive?

I really like the design of the one on the left (Giga Drive). It looks like a Sony Discman, which might have helped boost sales from this design alone. Its styling also seems reminiscent of early 90s SEGA hardware, like the Model 1 Mega Drive and Mega CD.

The one on the left looks more akin to the Sega CDX, while the right one looks pretty similar to the final Saturn design.

always loved the design on the right, it appeared on some magazines bak in the day.

The one on the left is new for me, don't like it much.
