View Full Version : GG Adapter for Mega SG release date?

Have I completely missed an announcement, or are we legitimately being ignored on the adapter front by Analogue? I was under the impression that the Game Gear adapter was set to release shortly after the console. They seem to be pouring all of their efforts into the DAC (which does look slick), and I'm worried this project is being put on an indefinite back-burner.

Coincidentally I was just wondering about this a few nights ago. I did a bit of searching and indeed there are no updates at all. On Analogue's site they still have it mentioned as coming in 2018.

Yeah, pretty crazy. And with the Analogue Pocket having been announced, it's starting to look like they're moving on from the SG without fully delivering on the original pitch. I really hope this isn't the case because they are one of a handful of clone console makers that I have full faith in ATM.

Their lack of updates stopped me dead in my tracks from ordering the Analogue Pocket.

Notice how the Analogue Pocket doesn't show any of its adapters functioning or in existence. Will years (or never) go by before the GG and Lynx adapters show up for the Analogue Pocket?

For anyone serious about playing Game Gear games, there are three listings on ebay for refurbed/modded systems with VGA output.

I am honestly sold on the Analogue Pocket for the pixel-perfect 1440p display. But I get where you're coming from. It's almost a crime that we don't have the adapters for the SG yet.

I had thought about those for a very long time but the price (plus my aversion to modding) has kept me away. I have a large collection of un-modded systems and a handful of clones. The UltraHDMI for the N64 has had me interested for a long time, as there are few alternatives to the PQ it provides, outside of sloppy emulation.

Didn't they just release an announcement about this? The adapters are coming in February, I believe.

Source?
There is nothing on their website, still says available in 2019.

Though thankfully going to look for info I did get to score a translucent black Mega SG and soundtrack cart.

Analogue replied to me on Twitter. February is the correct release time. https://twitter.com/analogue/status/1195615035873038337?s=19

Sick. Now if only there was some way to support Gear-to-Gear 2-player...
come to think of it, the Analogue Pocket doesn't incorporate system linking. That would've been dope if they pulled that off with wi-fi.

Yeah, they said February next year. Here's a link to the specific tweet: https://twitter.com/analogue/status/1195615035873038337?s=19

And the Analogue Pocket doesn't support linking? I find that surprising since it was a pretty popular feature of the GameBoy. If they have GameBoy linking working, I wonder if they could do other systems through the same port.

So glad we got an update on this. I was getting worried that the Analogue Pocket was going to drop and support for these would be forgotten.

Shipping? Where does someone purchase them? They aren't listed anywhere on Analogue's store.

I understood it as perhaps being an ambiguation, meaning ready for purchase and subsequent shipping come February. I may be wrong mind.

It occurred to me maybe they mean the adapters are shipping from the manufacturer this week.
I just cant understand why the communication from these DIY type companies is always so spotty and inaccurate.
Edit:
So the original tweet made it clear. I still dont understand why they (and so many others) cant communicate clearly to their customers on their actual website.

In addition, Mega Sg cartridge adapters are ready and will be available for purchase + shipping at the end of this week
~ where as their website still says "Shipping in 2019."

Sold out already?
I got an email at 1:32 EST, at 2:20 EST it wont allow checkout and says they are sold out. I'm thinking it's a glitch, it'd be surprising if they sold out in less than an hour.

I was just trying to see what they are going to charge for shipping, as the MegaSG shipping was highly bloated.

I want the Game Gear adapter but have absolutely no need for the My Card adapter and dont really want the MarkIII adapter either. Pretty whack that they're going to make us buy all three at $50 + shipping.

Just ordered mine, I'll probably only ever need the GG adapter, so watch this space: I may have one or two to sell on if anyone's interested.

I unfortunately missed them since I was at work. I even asked whether they were going up today on Twitter and got no response. Kinda awful after waiting an entire year for my main motivation for buying an SG (I already have a Model 1 and 2 + HD Retrovision cables). Got me bummed out.

I managed to snag the bundle. I only really want the GG one, but the card one is useful, and I might actually buy some SG-1000 games now since I don't have to worry about expensive hardware that can't connect to my HDTV.

You actually got a reply? I have emailed them three times about various things (once about the adapter) and have never gotten a single reply...

Analogue informed that all Game Gear adapters are faulty and may ruin your system. No joke. They will be replaced within 30 days.

There must be some vast conspiracy that doesn't want me to play Game Gear games. First it is the crummy adapter for the Retro Freak, then the crummy adapter for the Retron 5 and now this. Sheesh!

I've been tempted to just pick one up to test out. Wondering if whatever was causing the SGs to fry with the official adapter might happen with the RetroN 3-in-1 as well, though :/
