Make sure the pins on your Genesis/Mega Drive Cartridge slot are not touching/too close. It will create a short and the Sega CD will not start. If anyone else has an issue...

Thank you for your reply, the caps on the genesis have been replaced and checked, the connector looks good (I can't see any cracks or fractures etc) I'm going to clean the sega cd...
