I switched my Samsung for a Yamaha on a VA1 and it was a direct bolt in.
You can as long as the voltage is the same on the drives. For example if the original is 3.3V make sure the Yamaha drive is 3.3V too. You can verify with the Power PCB if it's a 3.3v or 5v as well....

You could always switch to a Yamaha drive. Those lasers are easier to find than the R48.
I hated that the CPU blocked almost every attempt to freeze them.

Does anybody know what output it supports like RGB, S-Video or is it just HDMI?
I got mine for $120 with a Genesis, Star Wars 32X controllers and hook ups a few months ago
I just got mine. Works really well and I find no scaler looks pretty good too. That 8bitdo controller works really good on original hardware too.
