    Default Game Genie

So I'm thinking of buying but I'm not quite sure i'll use it. If I understand right you can cheat in games with it. But also there are cheats for almost every genesis game. So whats the point of the Genie, if you can cheat without it? Or am I missing something?

It gives you cheats that would otherwise be unavailable in the games. Most Game Genie cheats give you either invincibility, infinite lives, ammo, etc... A lot of games don't have those sorts of cheats by default. Plus there are other cool cheats that people have come up with like region bypass.

jefis, I noticed that you have a Road Rash 3 Avatar. Here's an example of some of the Game Genie codes for Road Rash 3:

    http://www.gshi.org/?s=v2&sys=16&gid=1426

That should give you an idea of what a Game Genie can do.

Not all the cheats are unlockable through the regular carts. The Game Genie will give you access to all the levels, powerups, modes, and it can even make the experience more fun. Besides, it's only $3 at Play N Trade. Why not?

In each game's code there's a set of basic instructions like 'player starts with THREE lives', 'when the jump button is pressed, the player jumps TWENTY pixels into the air', and so on.

What the Game Genie does is wait for the game to read these instructions, and send different instructions instead. So instead of starting with three lives, the Game Genie sends 'player starts with FIFTY lives' instead. The codes you enter when you start up the Game Genie tell it where the instructions are, and what to replace them with.

Cheat codes, on the other hand, are built into the game, and are designed to give the player infinite lives, infinite ammo etc. The Game Genie can do this on games that don't have cheat codes built-in.
